Growing veggies in the balcony garden is a true delight. The satisfaction of lightly cutting off the vegetable from its stem and using it to make dinner is unbeatable. And so, if you have limited space, here are 5 mini veggies to grow in the balcony.

Okra, also known as Lady Finger or Bhindi, is one of the easiest to grow vegetables. They can grow well even in warm, humid climates, and even though they are a hassle to cut and cook, they are super nutritious.

To grow Okra at home, start by bringing in a mature sapling or plant from a nearby nursery for quick results. Then take a deep pot, install a trellis on it, and then trail the vines onto the trellis. The plant will first flower and then produce okra.

Another great balcony vegetable is the bell pepper. When harvested fresh, they are perfectly crunchy and thus go great in salads, pizza, and even for dinner preparations.

Growing bell peppers from the seed is fairly easy and can be done without much worry. Get a bell pepper, cut it open, extract the seed, keep it in a tissue to germinate, and once you see leaves sprouting transfer it to a bigger pot.

If you have some wide space in your balcony, radishes can be grown easily. They grow quickly, need minimal fertilisation, and both the vegetable and the leaves can be eaten without worry.
canva
Take a pot about 6 inches deep and 10 inches wide. In the pot add a nutritious mix of garden soil, cocopeat, neemcakes, and some perlite. Then add the radish seeds by maintaining some gap between them, and water it wisely.

One of the favourite pastimes for Indians is to snap and eat peas, especially in the winter months. And what if we tell you that they can be grown at home as well?
canva
Get a pot that is about 10-12 inches deep, and add a bamboo stick or trellis to it for support. It is best to grow them from a mature plant to eliminate the extra efforts, and make sure they get atleast 5 hours of sunlight everyday in the growth stage.

Another quick-growing vegetable that can be harvested multiple times is the Spring onion. These can be used in soups, stews, as garnish, in oils, and in so much more. And the way the leaves can be grown repeatedly, is a true delight.
canva
If you already have spring onions at home, cut off the leaves and keep the white stalk in some water till it starts to develop roots. Then transfer it to a rich soil mix and make sure it gets 6 hours of sunlight everyday. Soon, you will see new shoots coming out of the vegetable.
