Vikrant Massey, Raashii Khanna and Ridhi Dogra's highly anticipated film 'The Sabarmati Report' was scheduled to release on August 2, but encountered a setback after director Ranjan Chandel announced his departure from the project.
Explaining the reason behind his decision, the director Ranjan Chandel told the Hindustan Times that although he had completed filming, the makers wanted to add a few elements to the movie.
He did not agree with these changes, especially given the sensitive subject matter of the film. As a result, he decided to step back from the project due to creative differences with the makers, which he felt he could not reconcile with. Chandel also clarified that reports suggesting the changes were prompted by the CBFC's certification process and that this caused the film's postponement were not true at all.
'The Sabarmati Report' narrates the story of the Godhra train burning incident that took place on the morning of February 27, 2002, on the Sabarmati Express. A total of 59 Hindu pilgrims and karsevaks returning from
Ayodhya were killed in a fire inside the train near the Godhra railway station in Gujarat. The incident, which triggered religious riots, remains controversial, with the cause still disputed to this day.
In the film, Vikrant Massey portrays the character of a Hindi journalist striving to bring the truth of the Sabarmati incident to light. The film's teaser showcases Massey's character battling against the management of English language in India as he fights tirelessly to ensure that Hindi perspectives are acknowledged and represented.
On the work front, Vikrant Massey was recently seen in ‘12th Fail’. The film was based on a true story and drew from the struggles of millions of students attempting the UPSC entrance exam.
