Speculation about the third installment of
Aanand L Rai’s popular Tanu Weds Manu franchise has been rife, with rumours suggesting that R Madhavan might reprise his role in the film. However, in a recent interview with The Indian Express, Madhavan clarified that he has not been approached for the project.
When asked if he had discussed the sequel with Rai or if the third installment might feature
Kangana Ranaut in a triple role, Madhavan responded, “As much as I would like to talk about it, I really have no idea. It has just been on Instagram. The media and people are asking me these questions. Neither Aanand nor anybody else has talked to me about part three.”
The actor further hinted that he might not even be part of the film. “I have no clue and I don’t know what the script is. Maybe I am not there in it. Maybe they have replaced me. I haven’t got the faintest idea,” he added.

Previously, Madhavan expressed his reluctance to return to the franchise, describing it as “water under the bridge.” Speaking to YouTuber Jaby Koey, he said, “There is no point in beating a dead horse… With Tanu Weds Manu, it’s impossible. I think I’m done with it. I don’t want to go back to being Manu now.”
Released in 2011, Tanu Weds Manu became a cult classic, followed by the equally successful Tanu Weds Manu Returns in 2015. Both films showcased the unlikely romance between Madhavan’s reserved Manu and Kangana Ranaut’s spirited Tanu, set against the vibrant backdrop of Uttar Pradesh. The franchise also featured memorable performances by Swara Bhasker,
Deepak Dobriyal, and
Jimmy Sheirgill.
