Sonu Sood is making his debut as a writer with his upcoming action film 'Fateh,' which he is also directing and producing. He shared that he has contributed to many award-winning scenes in Bollywood and South Indian films but never took credit because he wasn’t the main writer.
The actor said directors often recorded his ideas because they liked how he described scenes. However, he never sought recognition, focusing instead on teamwork.
In an interview with News 18, Sonu revealed that he had contributed ideas to the scripts of several South and Bollywood films, many of which went on to win writing awards. Despite his input, he chose not to take credit, as he was not the primary writer for those projects.
Sood shared that he frequently reworked scenes when he found the initial scripts unsatisfactory. While he wasn’t credited as a writer, he actively contributed fresh ideas to ensure the scenes aligned with the film’s theme and respected its original vision.
The 'Jodhaa Akbar' actor reminisced his writing impressed some of the biggest filmmakers. He shared, "While I would narrate my ideas, some of the biggest directors requested me if they could record me on a dictaphone or on their phones as they liked what I was describing."
He shared that his reworked scenes often became key parts of successful scripts. He smiled as he remembered how his ideas, shared verbally, became popular and were used by well-known filmmakers in their movies.
The actor explained, “I never felt the need to take credit because we’re all part of one film."
Sood shared that while it’s rewarding to see his ideas appreciated, Fateh has been a completely unique journey. The Simmba actor revealed that during the shoot, he always carried a pen and paper, jotting down lines inspired by his personal experiences.
He credited his mother for nurturing his flair for writing and explained how his storytelling skills grew over time. Sonu added that those who know him often say he has a natural talent for narrating scenes as effortlessly as reading from a book.
Sood believes he inherited his writing talent from his mother, an English and history professor who would write him poetic letters. He would reply in a similar style, and she always encouraged him to keep writing, praising his talent.
Sonu reflected on how his mother's advice about writing stayed with him, shaping his journey. He shared that Fateh is the result of years of thoughts he had written down in his diary. He admitted that he didn’t fully understand her advice to keep writing until after her passing, but since then, he has made it a habit to write down any idea that comes to mind.
On the professional front, Sonu is ready to showcase his directorial skills with Fateh, an action-packed thriller that's creating a lot of buzz. The film features an impressive cast, including Jacqueline Fernandez,
Vijay Raaz, Naseeruddin Shah, and Dibyendu Bhattacharya. Set to release on January 10, 'Fateh' promises to offer an exciting, action-filled experience for moviegoers.
