Patna: A 64-year-old resident of Peed Pahad under Mufassil police station in Munger district allegedly shot himself late on Monday night, after his name cropped up in a murder case.
Sudam Chaudhary's family rushed him to sadar hospital, from where he was referred to Patna in a critical condition, but, he passed away on way. The body was returned to Munger for postmortem examination.
According to the family members, the incident followed a village dispute when one Raja Ram Chaudhary was shot dead. Raja's family filed an FIR against Sudam and his sons, accusing them of murder.
Sadar subdivisional police officer (SDPO) Rajesh Kumar confirmed that Raja, a labourer, was shot dead. "The victim's family named Sudam, his sons Robin and Sittu, along with others as suspects at Mufassil police station. Sudam later shot himself in the head with his pistol out of fear and remorse," he said.
Upon receiving the information, police reached Sudam's house and recovered a weapon from his room.
