Nashik civic body receives 65cr for Ram Kal Path project
Nashik: The Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) has received Rs65 crore for the development of Ram Kal Path.
It will be a 1.36-km-long walkway between Seeta Gumfa and Ram Kund — both areas holding religious importance.
The project would be developed under the aegis of the Union ministry of culture and tourism's Special Assistance to State for Capital Investment (SASCI). The project aims at developing iconic tourist centres and will focus on creating an environment akin to the era of Lord Ram when he stayed in Panchavati during his period of exile.
"The NMC has received the funds and will now prepare and execute the plans for the Ram Kal Path. Currently, the govt has allocated Rs99 crore for the project, out of which Rs65 crore has been credited. We are planning to take this theme for the development of the riverfront in the city that will require more funds. This, however, will be taken up at a later stage," divisional commissioner Praveen Gedam said.
Gedam has asked the civic authorities to study the feasibility of the development of the riverfront, which will be an extension of the Ram Kal Path, in order to help maintain a healthy corridor along the Godavari river.
Municipal commissioner Manisha Khatri said the block plan for Ram Kal Path is ready, but the master plan is yet to be prepared. "There is a timeline to use the funds by 2026. We will begin the process of appointment of the consultant within a week's time, though core works will be carried out by the concerned departments in parallel," Khatri said.
