Udupi: A family lost nearly 900g of gold ornaments worth Rs 63 lakh while travelling on a train from Mumbai to Udupi. Avinash, a resident of Mumbai, in a complaint, stated that the incident took place when he, along with his family, boarded the CST Mangalore Express (train No. 12133, coach No. S3) from Mumbai on Nov 15. He said that he placed four suitcases, containing clothes and gold ornaments, under their seat without locking the zips. Upon reaching Indrali Railway Station in Udupi the next day, they returned home and opened the bags in the evening, only to find the gold ornaments missing from two suitcases. The complainant suspects that the theft occurred somewhere between Panvel and Kankavli railway stations. Based on the complaint, a case was registered at the Manipal police station.
Gold worth Rs 31L stolen
A home nurse has been accused of stealing gold and diamond ornaments worth Rs 31.1 lakh from a house where he was employed in Udupi. In a complaint, Prasad, 57, from Badagubettu, Udupi, said that he hired a home nurse through an agency in Parkala, to take care of his aged father 15 days ago. On Nov 17, between 9.15am and 1.15pm, ornaments were stolen from a secret locker in the complainant's bedroom. A case was registered at Udupi Town police station.
Man decamps with bag containing Rs 2L
An unknown person allegedly decamped with a bag containing Rs 2 lakh cash from the cash counter of a shop at Kokkada. In a complaint, Isubu, 61, from Kowkradi village in Kadaba taluk, said that when he was getting ready to go to a masjid on Nov 15, an unknown person entered the shop and requested 450 bananas. When Isubu went inside the shop to weigh the bananas, the man left, saying he would return with a vehicle to collect the order. Upon returning to the cash counter, Isubu discovered that a bag containing cash had been stolen. A case was registered at Dharmasthala police station, and the investigation is on.
