Madurai: Sleuths of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) have booked a deputy tahsildar in Madurai on charges of taking bribes of around Rs 1.65 lakh from two people for delaying the public auction of their properties.
DVAC sources said R Dhanapandi, 46, was suspended when she was deputy tahsildar, election cell, Madurai North taluk. Before the suspension, she was working as head assistant/deputy tahsildar, ‘D' section, district collector office, Madurai, from 2021 to 2022. At that time, assets of Elango and Palanichamy were ordered to be auctioned by a special court in connection with a TNPID (Tamil Nadu Protection of Interests of Depositors) Act case
However, DVAC investigation revealed that Dhanapandi accepted bribes from Elango and Palanichamy in multiple installments ranging from 5,000 Rs 50,000 for delaying the public auction of their properties.
DVAC booked Dhanapandi under the Prevention of Corruption Act. Further investigation is on.
