3 members of family drown in Ghataprabha river while fishing in Karnataka's Belagavi

A fisherman and his two young sons tragically drowned in the backwaters of the Ghataprabha river in Benakanaholi village. The family was attempting to set a fishing net when their makeshift raft sank. Their bodies were recovered by the NDRF team the following morning, leaving the village in mourning.

BELAGAVI: A fisherman and his two children drowned to death in the backwater of the Ghataprabha river on Sunday evening at Benakanaholi village in Hukkeri taluk.
The deceased have been identified as- Laxman Rama Ambali (49), a resident of Benakanaholi, and his children Ramesh Ambali (14) and Yallappa Ambali (12). They tried to go deep into the water with the help of a basket and set a net, but the basket sank, killing all of them.
They parked their vehicle on the side of the road near the river on Sunday evening. When they did not return even at night, the villagers started searching for them. They found the bike parked and informed the police.
The NDRF team, which arrived on Monday morning, conducted a search operation and recovered the bodies. The deceased's hometown, located half a kilometre from where the bodies of the three were found, was visited by hundreds of people who shed tears. The relatives were in tears.
A case was registered at the Yamakanmardi police station.
