Amritsar: With the deployment of anti-drone technology along the Indo-Pak border in Punjab, the Border Security Force (BSF) has neutralised nearly twice the drones as it did last year. In the past 10 days, the paramilitary force intercepted 25 drones.
A BSF spokesperson informed on Tuesday that the force has intercepted 225 drones along the border in Punjab this year, compared to 129 in 2023. This brings the total number for the two years to 354. BSF intercepted its 200th drone this year on Nov 9. Over the next 10 days, it downed 25 drones, despite thick fog. Drones from Pakistan have become a significant security threat along the border, with these unmanned flying objects being used to smuggle drugs, arms, and ammunition into India. “These drones typically fly under the radar, and deliver contraband, including drugs, arms and ammunition into border villages in Punjab, before returning to Pakistan. However, with the installation of advanced anti-drone technology, including cutting-edge techniques that take control of the flying object from its pilot—presumably in Pakistan—these drones are either deactivated or shot down,” said a BSF source.
