Manage your library in the Apple TV app on Mac
The Library in the Apple TV app includes your purchases and rentals organised by category, as well as playlists you’ve created and home videos you’ve manually added to your library.
Show or hide categories in your library
In the Apple TV app on your Mac, move the pointer to the right of the Library heading in the sidebar until Edit appears, then click it.
Do one of the following:
Show a category: Select the tick box next to the category.
Hide a category: Unselect the tick box next to the category.
When you’re finished making selections, click Done in the sidebar.
Browse your library in the Apple TV app
In the Apple TV app on your Mac, click one of the categories under Library in the sidebar (Movies, TV Shows or Genres, for example).
On the right, scroll to browse items.
When you select Genres in the sidebar, a list of genres appears. Select an item in the list (Comedy, for example) to filter the results.
Access another family member’s collection
If you’ve set up Family Sharing with your Apple ID, your other family members’ purchases appear in Library. You can easily switch to another person’s collection.
In the Apple TV app on your Mac, click Family Sharing under Library in the sidebar.
Select a family member.

Play an item
In the Apple TV app on your Mac, click one of the categories under Library in the sidebar.
On the right, move the pointer over a thumbnail, then click the Play button that appears.
Download a movie or TV show
In the Apple TV app on your Mac, click one of the categories under Library in the sidebar.
On the right, move the pointer over a thumbnail, then click the Download button that appears.
To monitor the progress of the download, choose Window > Activity.
See more options
In the Apple TV app on your Mac, click one of the categories under Library in the sidebar.
On the right, move the pointer over a thumbnail.
Click the More button that appears, then choose an option:
Download: Downloads the item to your computer. This option does not appear for home videos.
Mark as Watched or Mark as Unwatched: Re-categorises the item.
Add to Playlist: Opens a submenu with options for adding the item to a new playlist or to an existing one.
Get Info: Opens a window containing metadata associated with the item. If the item is a home movie, you can edit its metadata.
Copy: Copies the title, runtime, director, genre and other information about the item.
Show in Finder: If an item has been downloaded, reveals its location in Finder.
Delete from Library: Hides items purchased from the Store and deletes items imported from other sources.
Create a playlist
You can create custom compilations of the movies and TV shows in your library for playback in any order you choose.
Note: Adding an item to a playlist downloads the item to your computer.
In the Apple TV app on your Mac, choose File > New > Playlist.
The Library opens and displays a blank playlist.
Type a name for the playlist, then press Return.
Your new, empty playlist appears in the sidebar, in the Playlist section.
To add items to the playlist, click a category under Library in the sidebar (Movies, for example), then do any of the following:
Drag an item on the right to the playlist in the sidebar.
Move the pointer over an item on the right, click the More button that appears, choose Add to Playlist, then choose the playlist.
Control-click an item in your library, choose Add to Playlist, then choose a playlist.
Edit a playlist
In the Apple TV app on your Mac, click a playlist under Playlist in the sidebar.
If you don’t see the playlist, move the pointer to the right of Playlist, then click the disclosure arrow that appears.
Do either of the following:
Change the playback order of items: Drag the items on the right into the order you want.
Remove an item: Click the More button that appears with the item, then choose Remove from Playlist.
Removing an item from a playlist doesn’t remove it from your library or storage device.
Import home videos to your library
You can import your own video files to watch in the Apple TV app.
In the Apple TV app on your Mac, choose File > Import.
Locate a video file on your Mac, then click Open.
Imported videos appear in the Home Videos category in the sidebar.
Watch home videos
In the Apple TV app on your Mac, click Home Videos in the sidebar.
On the right, move the pointer over a thumbnail, then click the Play button that appears.
