Download purchased and updated books or audiobooks in Books on Mac
If you purchased books or audiobooks from the Book Store or Audiobook Store on other devices, you can download and see those purchases on your Mac. You can also download books and audiobooks purchased by family members (if you use Family Sharing) and get updates.
Download books and audiobooks you purchased on other devices
You must be signed in to the Book Store or Audiobook Store with the same Apple ID you used to buy or download the books.
In the Books app on your Mac, click All (or another collection) in the sidebar.
Double-click a book or audiobook that has an iCloud status icon below it to download and open it.
Tip: You can have books you purchase on other devices download automatically to your Mac. In the Books app on your Mac, choose Books > Settings, click General, then select Download new purchases automatically.
Download books and audiobooks purchased by family members
You must be signed in to the Book Store or Audiobook Store with the same Apple ID you use for Family Sharing.
In the Books app on your Mac, click your name in the lower-left corner.
Below Family Purchases, click a Family member’s name.
Click Books or Audiobooks, then click All Books, Recent Purchases or a genre.
Click the title of a book or audiobook to download it.
Download book or audiobook updates
In the Books app on your Mac, click your name in the lower-left corner.
Click Updates, then click an update or click Update All.
Download audiobooks purchased on audible.com
Audible is a third-party website that sells audiobooks and other spoken programmes.
You can download items that you purchase from Audible to Books, and listen to them on your Mac, iPhone, iPad or iPod touch.
Before you can listen to an audiobook from the Audible website, your computer needs to be authorised on audible.com.
Sign in to audible.com.
Find the audiobook you want to add to your Books library, then click Download.
Open the Downloads folder, locate the audiobook, then do any of the following:
Double-click the audiobook.
Drag the audiobook to the Books app window.
In the Books app , choose File > Import, go to the Downloads folder, select the audiobook, then click Import.
Change your settings for downloads and purchases
On your Mac, choose Apple menu > System Settings, then click [your name] at the top of the sidebar. If you don’t see your name, click “Sign in with your Apple ID” to enter your Apple ID or to create one.
Click Media & Purchases on the right, then choose options using the Free Downloads and Purchases and In-App Purchases pull-down menus.
If you use iCloud for Books, any books, audiobooks or PDFs you import on another device automatically appear on your Mac.
Hidden books and audiobooks don’t appear and can’t be downloaded.
