From Srednji Engleski Latin, Latyn, from Stari Engleski Lǣden, from Vulgar Latin *ladinum (“Latin”) and Stari Francuski latin (“Latin”); all from Latinski Latinus (“belonging to Latium”). Later influenced in form by the Latin word. Compare Holandski Latijn (“Latin”), Nemački Latein (“Latin”), Švedski Latin (“Latin”).
