Darel & SipderMan, I took a look at wxdesigner and it looks like a nice dialog editor, however I don't think I wanna do WX-Windows and learn C too. Also at this point I'm not concerned about cross-platform functionality. I downloaded the Windows Dialog Editor also. I be using this until somethig better (and ofcourse free) comes along. Oh BTW, there seems to be at-least one control missing - the Tab control. Maybe I don't have the latest version(3.10.164)? --- Thanks and Regards, Sam Sam...@ju... Passing a file name to a console program as a parameter requires full path to work by clicking "Run" under IDE. Without full path the executable is not able to locate and open the file. Normally, the executable should find the file in the working directory. This means that the environment option to "execute in directory of executable" is not working even if checked. In fact, the executable runs in c:\dev-c++\bin\ directory, I suspect. To observe the behavior 1) run devcpp.exe from program menu. 2) compile this program: #include<stdio.h> main(int argc, char** argv) { FILE *f; if ( argc > 1 ) { f=fopen(argv[1],"rt"); if( f==NULL ) printf("File %s has not been found!!!",argv[1]); else printf("File %s has been found and opened. ;\)",argv[1]); } else printf("No file name has been passed!"); printf("\n press any key..."); getchar(); } 3) try to pass an existing file name to this problem and run it under dev-c++. Running devcpp.exe in the directory of executable solves the problem. Unfortunately, recompiling resets the working directory from the directory of executable. |

This small program will read your file with all char included. Once you get further into "c" you will learn about structures & objects, which are much better for file applications. lstar36 #include <string.h> #include <stdio.h> #include <stdlib.h> void main(void) { FILE *stream; char string[132];// be sure to make this array as big as your longest string char *eof; int size; size = sizeof(string)+1; eof = malloc(size); // allocate memory for string stream = fopen("Myfile.txt","r"); do { // returns a NULL on end of file eof = fgets(string, size, stream); //reads a max of 132 char or untill new line. printf("%s", string); // }while(eof != NULL); } ----- Original Message ----- From: "blalock" <wi...@ea...> To: <dev...@li...> Sent: Wednesday, November 15, 2000 1:36 PM Subject: [Dev-C++] newbie question > Can I format input from a file inside of the file or do I have to do > this through code? Can I format input from a file inside of the file or do I have to do this through code? I am trying to import characters into my program as they are in the file. when I use fscanf it ignores the spaces. I was wondering if there is a way to essentially cut and paste from a file to my program including the spaces and returns. To explain, I am trying to import ascii art into the introduction portion of my program, so the input file needs to be formatted exactly as it is spaces and all. I am taking a class in C, very new at this, so I am playing with it..... thanks in advance for the reply. Blalock |

This code is just the bare bones and should do more error checking etc. In 'C' try: #include <stdio.h> #include <stdlib.h> int main(int argc, char *argv[]) { FILE* outfile; char fname[] = "myfile.txt"; if((outfile = fopen(fname, "w")) == NULL) { perror(fname); exit(1); } fprintf(outfile, "This text should now be in your file.\n"); fclose(outfile); return 0; } In C++ try: #include <stdio.h> #include <fstream> using namespace std; int main(int argc, char *argv[]) { fstream mystream; char fname[] = "myfile.txt"; mystream.open(fname, ios::out); mystream << "This text should now be in your file." << endl; mystream.close(); return 0; } Regards, James. -----Original Message----- From: Shiva Kissoon [mailto:shi...@ho...] Sent: Tuesday, November 14, 2000 10:46 PM To: dev...@li... You can find the dialog editor from Windows Platform SDK at my site: = http://spiderman.datablocks.net/files/tools/ If your going to be doing = Win32 development I highly suggest you go to http://msdn.microsoft.com = and download Platform SDK (get the documentation). Info can be found the their website. http://www.boost.org/ specifically http://www.boost.org/libs/regex/index.htm As for accessing web pages, (and by that I assume you mean remotely connecting to a web server and requesting a page from it which you then read into your program) you'll have to look into some networking functions. AFAIR Windows can use a similiar API to BSD style sockets. It should be relatively easy (assuming you know that API. If not I can try to explain it a bit or refer you to some web tutorials) to establish a TCP/IP connection to a remote web server on port 80, send it the get request, and read the data the server spits back. Hopefully that should help some, Chad Simmons _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. Hello, There's a package called WxWindows that has HTML support. It's packaged for Dev-C++, you can find it by following the links from bloodshed.net. I haven't used it but I think I recall it's a cross-platform system. Using system("pause") to keep the DOS console window open is actually = covered in the DEVC FAQ - it was the first question that I wanted to ask = too....:) |

This seems to be a common question....I too had the same problem....I've been using the following command before the return statement. system("pause"); Basicaly the system call works with DOS commands like pause and cls. I haven't tried others, but these two work to hold the screen and clear the screen. Hi- I have programmed for many years in perl, but I haven't taken more than a glance at C++ until now, so please excuse my ignorance. I am looking for a way to access web pages from my program. They are not web pages per se, but text files accessed over the web. I need to be able to parse these for strings. Regular expressions might be the way to do this. I know that there is a library called libWWW, but I have never used it except for it's perl incarnation, LWP. I would like the solution to be cross-platform between windows and linux, as I am developing a wxWindows application. I have attached some sample output to the end of this email. --Quentin [client_account_finder:start] [client_account_finder:host sneakemail.com] [client_account_finder:end] In this instance, I need to get xyz.com. As defined in Dev-Cpp's conio.h file, getch() is a macro for getchar(), not the other way around. Both getchar() and gets() have actual prototypes in stdio.h. Scanf() does indeed echo to the screen. Finally, getch()/getche() were the functions that were giving me problems to begin with > Problem2 > For reading from the stdin the best way is to use a loop: > char ch; > char string[82]; > int i=0; > do > { > ch =getch(); > string[i++] = ch; > }while(ch != '\n" || i <= 80) Er... I was hoping to avoid doing my own single-line editor... I'd like the program to have the ability to backspace/edit and the like, not just suck in characters. > hope this helps. Well, that works, but getchar() is line-buffered. Any ideas how I could do it without hitting <return> after my selection? Problem1 The getchar() and getc() functions are both macro's and leave a char (i think line feed char = 10) in the buffer. getch() and getche() are both DOS only functions but do not leave a char in the buffer. Unless you are worried about portability I would use one of them.Otherwise use the scanf() function to read in a line of code . scanf("%d", &choice); It will not echo so if you want to see your input you must writ the char back to the stdio. Problem2 For reading from the stdin the best way is to use a loop: char ch; char string[82]; int i=0; do { ch =getch(); string[i++] = ch; }while(ch != '\n" || i <= 80) hope this helps. ---- Original Message ----- From: "Ioannis Vranos" <no...@ya...> To: <dev...@li...> Sent: Monday, November 13, 2000 9:14 AM Subject: RE: [Dev-C++] character buffering with getch() and gets() > > > -----Original Message----- > > From: dev...@li... > > [mailto:dev...@li...]On Behalf Of Jon Keim > > Sent: Monday, November 13, 2000 11:39 AM > > To: Dev...@li... > > Subject: [Dev-C++] character buffering with getch() and gets() > > > > > > problem 1: > > I'm developing a piddly little program from a learning book, and in my > > main(), I've got a statement to get the user's choice from a menu > > that looks > > like this: > > > > choice = getche(); > > > > it takes the '1' character required and successfully activates a > > particular function. Hi I'm new to this list. I'm trying to learn WxWindows using Dev C++ 4. I downloaded the libs for WxWindows and the templates from the extra packages page (this is for Wx 2.2.0). I also downloaded the latest version of WxWindows (2.2.1) from the WxWindows site. However, I am unable to run the sample programs supplied with it using Dev C++. Has anybody else tried this successfully ? If yes, can you advise regarding what extra steps are required ? Thanks in advance. Biswa. |
