Dear friends, I am new to C++ programming and I am having some difficulty using a piece of code I have found on the web. All it does, is sorting an array of pairs (a,b) in an increasing order. In the present code, the output is also pairs (a,b) where only the "a" elements are ordered. My question is: How can I extract from the output only the arrays of "a's" or the array of "b's" separately? I would appreciate if you could help me or refer me a specific site where I could understand better the realated issues. Regards, Alberto // sort.cpp // #include <stdio.h> #include <stdlib.h> #include <iostream> #include <algorithm> #include <vector> #include <functional> using namespace std; struct associate { double num; int chr; associate(double n, int c) : num(n), chr(c){}; associate() : num(0), chr('\0'){}; }; bool operator<(const associate &x, const associate &y) { return x.num < y.num; } ostream& operator<<(ostream &s, const associate &x) { return s << "<" << x.num << ";" << x.chr << ">"; } int main () { vector<associate>::iterator i, j, k; double *A = new double[5]; int *B = new int[5]; associate arr[5]; for (int a=0; a<5; a++) { scanf("%lf %d", &A[a], &B[a] ); arr[a] = associate(A[a], B[a]); } // Set up vectors vector<associate> v(arr, arr+5), v1((size_t)5), v2((size_t)5); // Copy original vector to vectors #1 and #2 copy(v.begin(), v.end(), v1.begin()); copy(v.begin(), v.end(), v2.begin()); // Sort vector #1 sort(v1.begin(), v1.end()); // Stable sort vector #2 stable_sort(v2.begin(), v2.end()); // Display the results cout << "Original sort stable_sort" << endl; for(i = v.begin(), j = v1.begin(), k = v2.begin(); i != v.end(); i++, j++, k++) cout << *i << " " << *j << " " << *k << endl; return 0; } _________________________________________________________________ Dont waste time standing in linetry shopping online. But the question here is: Is it the source code that should be converted to HTML format, or do the OP want to create HTML data dynamically? If it's the second alternative, it is enough to just insert HTML tags in the data that is printed or written to file. /pwm On Thu, 5 Apr 2007, Zongliang, Quan wrote: > Try it: > > *nix: > http://www.palfrader.org/code2html/ > Windows: > http://www.codeproject.com/Purgatory/CPPtoHTML.asp > > It's really simple. After understanding the mathematical background, it is relatively easy to implement a spline function into a given computer language like C or C++. Years ago I implemented it even in assembler for an embedded real-time system with very restricted hardware ressources, later in C, when RAM and EEPROM together with the 8/16-bit microcontroller become cheaper. http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spline http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spline-Interpolation http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spline_%28mathematics%29 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spline_interpolation If you are too lazy to implement it by your own, you could try to use the GSL (GNU Scientific Library). The GNU Scientific Library (GSL) is a numerical library for C and C++ programmers. It is free software under the GNU General Public License. The library provides a wide range of mathematical routines such as interpolation, polynomials, random number generators, special functions and least-squares fitting. There are over 1000 functions in total with an extensive test suite. http://www.gnu.org/software/gsl/ http://www.gnu.org/software/gsl/manual/html_node/ http://www.gnu.org/software/gsl/manual/html_node/Interpolation.html Another possibility for your purpose could be Scilab / Scicos, an "open source" scientific math package, IMHO written in C / C++ and its source code free available. You could try to extract pieces of the source code that you need. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scilab To try an example with your values (points in your graph) there is a spline calculator, written in Java, that you could take a look at: http://www.arndt-bruenner.de/mathe/scripts/kubspline.htm#rechner I hope your German is better then my English ;-) Gruß, Werner Kitzmann . |

Hi, These links are indeed interesting about Free Software, but freeware is something different, and isn't the subject of this discussion http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freeware#Comparison_with_other_terms For standard C++ programs, you shouldn't need anything more than Dev-cpp, unless you are using third-party libraries Gtk/gtkmm, I managed to use with no major problems with Dev-cpp: simply install the libraries, configured and used pkg-config to get the adequate compiler/linker flags, and inserted them into the project's options. Qt, I am not very familiar with, however I believe there is an IDE included. (QtDesigner, anyone?) Sorry for my bad English. You can see below website to understand freeware: www.gnu.org www.opensource.org Extract from GNU: When we speak of "free software", we're talking about freedom, not price. (Think of "free speech", not "free beer".) Specifically, it means that a user is free to run the program, change the program, and redistribute the program with or without changes. Goog luck! Regards. I have a few points on a graph, and would like a C++ function that calculates a best fit equation such as a n degree polynomial. Are there functions already available to do this, or any ideas how I would write one. I've checked on the web but can't seem to find anything useful. Hello everyone Hope everyone is in good health. I have recently downloaded the Dev-C++ 4.9.9.2 IDE bundled with open source MinGW compiler. I want to write --Standard C++ Applications --Qt Applications Can you please tell me a step by step procedure, what other things(i.e; tools, libraries etc.) i need to write the desired applications. I have no knowledge of open source tools/compilers/libraries (MinGW, GCC etc.). Currently i am using Microsoft Visual C++, but now i want write open source application, therefore i want to use open source tools/compilers/libraries. I am using Microsoft Windows XP Pro SP2. You can use the Win32 API to do GUI programming, or you can use the wxWidg= ets library. I would strongly suggest the wxWidgets library. It makes GUI p= rogramming quite easy with some practice. The overhead might be expensive for an application that needs to use system("pause") in a loop. But as a final call before hanging there, waiting for the execution to end, you can ignore the cost. Even in a global perspective, the inefficiency is minimal compared to applications written in some other languages. /pwm On Mon, 2 Apr 2007, Jonathan Winterflood wrote: > Indeed, in a general case, (and esp. in Unix), there are tools that are > easily used this way (and are definitely designed to). > In the case of system('pause'), however, it's really an overkill, since the > command only does something trivial to do in code (plus the overhead...) > > Jonathan > > On 4/2/07, Per Westermark <pw...@ia...> wrote: > > > > Calling system functions isn't necessarily extra unsafe, and it isn't as > > simple as being bad if the OS does some of the work. > > > > When developing for unix, the majority of all command-line utilities are > > intended for interaction with other applications. Indeed, in a general case, (and esp. in Unix), there are tools that are easily used this way (and are definitely designed to). In the case of system('pause'), however, it's really an overkill, since the command only does something trivial to do in code (plus the overhead...) Calling system functions isn't necessarily extra unsafe, and it isn't as simple as being bad if the OS does some of the work. When developing for unix, the majority of all command-line utilities are intended for interaction with other applications. Either externally - by letting the user piping data between the applications - or internally, by making use of popen() to directly read the output of other applications. It should be noted, that in an M$ world, it is practically impossible to write a truly portable application. Why? M$ have decided to rename a large number of standard C functions - giving them an initial '_' character in the name. /Per W On Mon, 2 Apr 2007, Jonathan Winterflood wrote: > Indeed, system('pause') is rather messy (plus it's not really portable) > I usually do a system('pause') as a quick fix in the early stages of setting > up a program, I guess I'll use cin.get() from now on :) > > This would make the program so: > > #include <iostream> > using namespace std; > int main() > { > //say hello :) > cout<<"Hello World!\n"; > > //wait for user keypress > int pressed = cin.get(); > > //ignores an extra keypress > cin.ignore(); > > /* > do some more things here > */ > } > > But why should I ignore an extra character in the input, since the cin.get() > will eat the key the user pressed? > could it be a '\n' vs. '\r\n' issue ? > > Jonathan > > On 4/2/07, Amy...@ao... <Amy...@ao...> wrote: > > > > you really should not use system calls in a program unless you really > > need it. Indeed, system('pause') is rather messy (plus it's not really portable) I usually do a system('pause') as a quick fix in the early stages of setting up a program, I guess I'll use cin.get() from now on :) This would make the program so: #include <iostream> using namespace std; int main() { //say hello :) cout<<"Hello World!\n"; //wait for user keypress int pressed = cin.get(); //ignores an extra keypress cin.ignore(); /* do some more things here */ } But why should I ignore an extra character in the input, since the cin.get() will eat the key the user pressed? could it be a '\n' vs. '\r\n' issue ? Hi, I'm not sure this is the exact problem, but the code you posted isn't the correct way to use system("pause"): It should be inside the 'main', like so #include <iostream> using namespace std; int main() { cout<<"Hello World!\n"; system("pause"); } why dev-cpp didn't warn you loudly, I don't know... Also, if writing twice the same program doesn't seem to yield the same results, I'd try to make sure the program is getting recompiled properly (try deleting all the .exe, .o, and Makefile.win, also, try make clean [Rebuild all in dev-ccp I think]) Jonathan On 1 Apr 2007 17:15:28 -0000, Devashish Shanker < dev...@re...> wrote: > > (pwm and Aamynuttal, please ignore this message) > Hi! > I've a very unique problem about execution of Cpp. > I entered the code and the source was compiled without any errors. (pwm and Aamynuttal, please ignore this message)Hi!I\'ve a very unique problem about execution of Cpp. I entered the code and the source was compiled without any errors. The windows application was created, but didn\'t open (or it opened for a split second and closed). I tried system(\"pause\"); the result was that an application opened, saying \"press any key to continue\", but the expected output was not there. The simple code was:#include <iostream>using namespace std;int main(){ cout<<\"Hello World!\\n\";}system(\"pause\") didn\'t print \"Hello World\". Then I tried:modifying cout<<\"Hello World!\\n\";but that, too didn\'t work. When I triedcin.get();the application started running in the desired way. Then, I had deleted that application and source file. When I again wrote the same program with cin.get(); it didn\'t work! (didn\'t open!) I\'m wondering what creates such a problem. Please Help! |

(per westermark, please ignore this message. I\'ve already sent another) Hi!I am new to programming languages. I had chosen DevCpp as a compiler. I tried to get the output of examples given in tutorials. It was successfully compiled and a Windows Application(.exe) was created in the path I selected. But when I clicked on execute or run, the application didn\'t open. I tried the \"run\" option on the Start menu. It didn\'t alert that path was incorrect, but still didn\'t open the application. I tried double-clicking also. I had tried many codes, but the application didn\'t open.I used, namespace std. and #include <iostream>. I also added the following:<#include <stdlib.h>system(\"pause\")A ms-dos window opened on this, but my codes were not executed. PLEASE HELP!With regards,Dave (Devashsish Shanker) |

Are you sure that the application doesn't open and then immediately closes? If you want to see the output of the application, you must either run it from the command line, or add something like: #include <stdlib.h> and then perform the following call before main() returns: system("pause"); /pwm On 31 Mar 2007, Devashish Shanker wrote: > I have just started doing programming languages.
