Why does the 'In other languages' side-bar not link to simple.wikipedia articles?[change source]

bottom text Emdosis (talk) 16:30, 5 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Because this is the Simple English Wikipedia. Why would articles link to themselves? QuicoleJR (talk) 20:35, 16 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Being accused of adding promotional content and external links[change source]

See https://simple.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Artificial_intelligence&diff=9590207&oldid=9590205. Please advise that user, if that user is being unreasonable (with no reason whatsoever, which is my claim). 2001:2020:351:861F:258C:189D:3E48:871E (talk) 17:31, 9 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! Your edits (1 and 2) introduced an external link to Wingman. We don't need that on the article. Additionally, your edits introduced complex language into the article that was not Simple English. The reason for the revert was stated in the edit summary and on your talk page. :) Have a great day! Operator873 connect 17:39, 9 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Well, that link existed long before May 23 (see simple.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?diff=9561089&oldid=9561085&title=Artificial_intelligence ). On May 23, it was hidden, and the IP made an edit-remark that the (problematic) link is spam.--Too bad that nobody removed the URL, instead of reverting versions.--And i hope that there are no hard feelings about me pointing out that Artificial general intelligence (or AGI) and Generative artificial intelligence are different subjects. I can sort of see, that they names look similar. 2001:2020:31B:B8E1:D00C:16B4:9112:DE24 (talk) 21:39, 9 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I don't mind at all. People, all people, are wrong at times. I honestly didn't care about the difference, to be honest. I do care about the quality of the article and it being written in language easy to understand. Also, since I have your attention here, please stop hiding text in articles using the HTML comment <!-- --> tags. That isn't appropriate on any Wikipedia project, even if you don't like what's written. Operator873 connect 01:27, 10 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The article about A.I. has been locked by someone who is too involved in the article. Just saying.--Since I ain't gonna be starting articles about any of those subjects, then see ya in December.--By that time some one might have figured out that it was wrong to remove mention of [[Artificial general intelligence (or AGI).--And the discussion page seems to show that there is a learning curve involved, to grasp that Generative artificial intelligence - is a different subject. Yikes. 2001:2020:31B:B8E1:5F5:4AA8:1FE3:DD2B (talk) 20:46, 9 June 2024 (UTC)/ 2001:2020:31B:B8E1:5F5:4AA8:1FE3:DD2B (talk) 20:47, 9 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
By the way, there is no need to thank (the I.P.) who hid the spam-link on May 23 (see simple.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?diff=9561089&oldid=9561085&title=Artificial_intelligence ) - because i *appreciate* having the article locked' (for IPs). That is thanks *enough*. 2001:2020:31B:B8E1:5F5:4AA8:1FE3:DD2B (talk) 21:20, 9 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I became involved on the page because I had to revert the damage you did to it. I subsequently protected to page because there was a well documented history of on-going spam on the page. And you're right. There is no thanks due to the IP who hid the link because HTML comment tags should never be used to hide any portion of an article for any reason. Full stop. There is a steep learning curve on this project regarding how to successfully write in simple English, so we'll forgive you for trying to insert and argue for the inclusion of Artificial general intelligence (or AGI) without any effort to explain what that is in simple English. You can just toss a term you want in the article and walk away. That's not how this works. I strongly suggest you take a while to read WP:HOW and realize there is a vast and staggering difference between this project and the English Wikipedia. It is much more difficult to write quality articles here because you can't use complicated language. I wish you the best of luck. Operator873 connect 01:57, 10 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

EC Protection for Hamis Kiggundu[change source]

This article is the global target of a very large sock farm consisting of undeclared pair editors. It has been going on for a long while in many WMF sites. It would be appreciated if you would protect the Simple article in the same manner as the enwiki article, please. Timtrent (talk) 07:09, 12 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Non-admin comment - This article has barely been touched compared to the en article so not really seeing a need to protect here, also Simple doesn't protect pages like en either, Thanks, –Davey2010Talk 09:55, 12 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I should have said "Part of the global target" I apologise. Nonetheless Kiggundu related articles have been greatly "embellished" here in the past. Many named socks have been globally locked, which reduced the impact.
Perhaps admins here should simply become aware. Timtrent (talk) 20:15, 12 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Goose Green, 1982 Articles aren't imported, only templates etc are, Thanks, –Davey2010Talk 20:44, 12 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I trust you but on Wikipedia:Transwiki attribution when referring to articles it says "Any user can request an import by an admin at the administrators' noticeboard." Is the article wrong or is it me? Goose Green, 1982 (talk) 20:51, 12 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Usually we don't import articles because the version being imported isn't in a simple format. They need to be translated into simple English. fr33kman 21:04, 12 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Isn't the process to import the article then translate it? Goose Green, 1982 (talk) 15:31, 13 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No, not in practice. Read WP:CW for a tutorial on how we do it here. The page you've referenced is wrong. fr33kman 16:18, 13 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @Goose Green, 1982, I've checked the Import log and as you can see here they're all Templates, Modules and 1 Wikt link so I would say that page you linked is wrong - If article importing is a thing then I've never seen it be done but I maybe wrong (the next page shows 4 articles but aren't page creations), Thanks, –Davey2010Talk 21:05, 12 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Template:GFDL[change source]

Hi! I noticed that Template:GFDL have disclaimers and per en:Wikipedia:GFDL standardization disclaimers should be avoided. Since most of the files are spoken articles they should have the same license as the articles on Wikipedia. So we could argue that it was a mistake to add the disclaimers and that they could be removed.

I also noticed that many of the files are also on Commons. So the local file could be deleted. Perhaps someone could have a look and decide what to do? --MGA73 (talk) 16:07, 18 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

IP making edits and then reverting themselves immediately after[change source]

Hi, So we have an IP 2.98.119.86 who copypastes from en and then reverts themselves immediately after - I know some accounts do this in order to gain autoconfirmed/Extended confirmed status but I didn't know if there was any reason why the IP is doing it?,

As far as I'm aware IPs aren't able to get the access levels registered users can get so I'm rather baffled here, Anyway not sure if this would tantamount to disruptive editing so thought I'd ask/post here, Thanks, Kind Regards, –Davey2010Talk 18:46, 20 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
