From Simple English Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Wheelchair curling is a type of curling. It is for people with physical disabilities.

Curling started to be at the Olympic Games in 1998. Wheelchair curling was introduced to the Winter Paralympics program in 2002.[1] People from 16 countries played wheelchair curling in 2017.[1]

Wheelchair curling is governed by the World Curling Federation.[1] Wheelchair curlers play on teams of four people.[1] One person on the team throws a 19.96 kilogram granite stone across an ice track. The track is 45 meter long. At the end of the track is a big circle. It has 4 rings. The diameter is 183 centimeters. There is a dot in the center. A team tries to get their stones the closest to the center. After each team throws ten stones, the team with the most stones closest to the center wins.[1]

The person who throws the stone sits in their chair on a rubber mat.[1] They use a special stick to assist in throwing the stone.[1]
