Ruggero Deodato (7 May 1939 – 29 December 2022) was an Italian movie director, screenwriter and actor. His best known movie is Cannibal Holocaust, thought to be one of the most controversial and brutal in the history of cinema, because of the extreme violence and the actual killings of animals in the movie. It has been banned or censored in many countries.[1] He is known as "Monsieur Cannibal" in France.[2]

Deodato died in Rome on 29 December 2022, at the age of 83, from complications of pneumonia, kidney failure, and liver failure.[3]

Deodato has inspired many movie directors like Oliver Stone, Quentin Tarantino and Eli Roth.[4][5]
