Peter Halsten Thorkelson (February 13, 1942 – February 21, 2019), better known as Peter Tork, was an American actor and musician. He was born in Washington, D.C. He started as a folk musician in Greenwich Village. In 1966, he became famous as a member of The Monkees. He was recommended for the group by his friend Stephen Stills. Shortly after The Monkees television series ended 1968, he left the band. He played with the other members of the group at times, but often played with his own bands and tours.
Tork died on February 21, 2019 in Mansfield, Connecticut, aged 77.[1] He suffered from a rare form of throat cancer in the years before his death.[2]
