Hornsby is a suburb and shire in the northern part of Sydney. It has passenger trains and buses to and from Parramatta and Sydney CBD.[2]
History
[change | change source]The name 'Hornsby' comes from a convict who became a constable. His name was Samuel Henry Horne, and he was given some land for helping catch two bushrangers, whose names were Dalton and MacNamara. He named the land he was given 'Hornsby Place' after himself.

The suburb
[change | change source]Hornsby station, Hornsby Westfield, Hornsby Library and many business buildings are in the centre of the suburb. The eastern side of the train line is often called the 'modern part' of Hornsby, and Westfield and the Hornsby Library are here, with many new towering apartment blocks. The western side of the railway line is home to Hornsby's main post office, court house, police station, council office, public swimming pool, TAFE college and many older shops and businesses. There is also an industrial area on the far western part of Hornsby, with many large warehouses and factories.

Hornsby Hospital and Mt Wilga Rehabilitation Hospital are two hospitals in Hornsby.
