syncretist I keep coming back again and again. It has elements that on their own would be a big no no to me, but something about the whole package is so compelling. I
love the drumming & the real orchestration. The vocal performance is tortured, exactly what's needed for the melancholic tone. A classic. Favorite track: The Emerald Pearl.

Some info on the CO-OP:
In the year 2000, 62 Honduran coffee farmers joined together with a common goal to transform their farms from conventional to organic production and formed COMSA (Cafe Organico Marcala, S.A). In 2001, fostered by a foundation called Funder, COMSA earned their organic certification from Bio Latina which has enabled them to market their coffee to more international buyers and realize better selling prices for their coffee. In February 2006, COMSA then applied for and was granted Fair Trade certification status. COMSA uses the Fair Trade price premium to fund many social projects including paying teachers’ salaries and purchasing school supplies.

What I like the most about this album is that it seems to be more riff-oriented and memorable compared to their earlier albums which were chock-full of crazy dissonant riffage but their songs often meandered or lacked any distinct progression. That is not to say that this this album is any less dense, but is certainly a little catchier, here and there. As always with Ulcerate, their music rewards repeated listening while clearly retaining the tragic, emotional feeling the band is known for. Lefteris Kefalas
