Not mentioned in the report: the worsening of the externalities of business activity – and the reality that these are now fully in the public view: 29m tonnes of plastic is expected to enter the ocean each year by 2040. "China’s economy is undergoing a profound transformation, marked by a series of reforms and stimulus measures aimed at stabilising growth and charting a course for sustainable development." 1. I agree that the series of reforms and stimulus measures are aimed at stabilising growth and blah blah sustainable development 2. I also agree that China wants to undertake a profound transformation 3. "China’s economy is undergoing a profound transformation" is neither helpful nor really accurate. Because one could also easily argue that The Great Leap Forward was a profound transformation too. "The path to sustainable growth in China requires a multifaceted approach that extends far beyond immediate fiscal and monetary interventions. It must address fundamental structural challenges and reimagine the foundations of economic prosperity." I agree, and they have been slow to address this. Talk about it - all the time. Addressing it though .... "Recent reforms have focused on reinvigorating key sectors of the economy. " Also not true, the recent reforms are aimed at reinvigorating the economy - nothing in the next few sentences says anything about key sectors. It is meant to be across the board. "The crux of China’s economic conundrum lies in its ongoing transition from an export-driven, investment-heavy model to one anchored more in domestic consumption and innovation." I agree, and so Western economists - but I think Beijing has a different idea. "More than short-term stimulus, this shift requires a fundamental reimagining of economic drivers and societal priorities. " Yes, but .... someone still wants common prosperity, rational and comparable salaries - and still be able to afford overpriced homes and increase consumption. The rest of the article is a list of problems to solve for the CCP. Look, China's problems are that they have found the problem, stopped the rot but not found a sustainable solution or a feasible transition plan. This is a way bigger problem than Hank, Ben and Tim had to contend with in 2007-2009; and as Krugman remarked last year - I (and Krugman) am not sure if the officials are up to the task to properly reimagine something so large and profound in an economy so large, complex with systemic issues. So what has happened and keeps happening is that they fiddle on the edges of an economic engine that they know has reached its limits and has worn bearings, leaky seals and chipped gear teeth - and entire damaged sections. So they need: 1. A candid we are here, and these are the things that suck 2. A realistic reimagining of the future, that is of sufficient detail and depth 3. A transition plan to get to (2) Hard when they have their hands full dealing with the suck. "China’s stimulus measures just first step on economic reform journey" Back to the title, no. I have the privilege to be involved in a couple of family-owners led 𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐭 𝐈𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐬 from changing the lives of migrants workers to building inclusive economies that combine financial returns with social good. Why if leaders know why strategy implementation fails does it still fail two-thirds of the time? It was my pleasure to answer this question and launch my new book “Implement: Doing it Right in a Digital World”, hosted by FIDE FORUM at Asia School of Business. His legacy teaches that human potential is not a fixed state but an evolving process, where understanding the interconnectedness of life’s key aspects (purpose, relationships, success, etc.) can lead to a more fulfilling life. When Beliefs and Behaviours Collide My parents left China pre-WW2, met and married in Singapore. Over 17 years, my mother gave birth to 9 children. My parents’ belief was that more children = more caregivers in their old age. This was a common belief – and behaviour – until the Sg government reframed it by proclaiming, “the more (children) you (parents) have, the less they get.” With a family of 11 in a one-bathroom shophouse, the morning peak hour was hectic. There was a bathroom schedule every morning; anyone late impacted everyone else. I grew up with the belief that I must wake up on time and be quick in the bathroom to respect others’ time. This served me well in National Service; I was never late. However, this belief causes tension in the morning school run now, triggering me if my children are slow. What are beliefs? They are only assumptions we hold as true. So they may not be true. Yet our beliefs can strongly influence our behaviours. What is/was your biggest disempowering belief? Mine was a belief that until I’ve had significant experience in a given topic, I wasn’t qualified to speak on it. When my first manager asked (tested, I suspect) me for my views on how to position a project delay to a client, I offered no opinion even though I knew what to do. I knew the client would be ok as long as we offered a get-well plan that didn’t impact their big milestones further down the road. I didn’t voice this as I believed it wasn’t my place as a rookie coder fresh out of school to give ideas on project management. Fortunately, a senior colleague highlighted this behaviour, and helped me identify and subsequently reframe my disempowering belief. Next time we are stuck in a behavioural rut, let’s ask ourselves “What beliefs are causing this behaviour? What beliefs do I need to reframe?” We may well find some kernel of untruths in ourselves. #leadership #behaviouralchange #changemanagement

ONE Championship, once proudly showcased by the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB) as a shining example of creative entrepreneurship in Singapore, just laid off dozens of employees. But wait - where was the foresight from EDB? 🤔 They’ve spent years promoting this brand as the *future of sports media in Asia*, yet here we are, with jobs on the line, and Singapore left in the dust as ONE shifts its focus elsewhere; mainly Thailand. EDB's quick move to offer post-layoff support is damage control, not a real solution. Isn’t it time we questioned whether the EDB’s strategy actually fosters long-term sustainability in the companies it promotes? Does the "glamour" of showcasing firms like ONE outweigh the need to ensure they’re truly committed to the Singaporean economy and workforce? This isn't just about a few dozen jobs - this is about accountability. If we are positioning Singapore as a hub for innovation, we need to ensure that companies nurtured by government agencies like EDB aren’t just using our platform for short-term gains, only to abandon our workforce when times get tough. Singaporean workers deserve better than to be collateral damage in the EDB's chase for "innovative" companies. 💡 We need a more holistic approach that ensures businesses supported by public agencies are committed to the long game. "𝐖𝐞 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐰𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐝 𝐢𝐧 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐰𝐚𝐲𝐬..." 💔 A couple of weeks ago, one of my coaching clients, Wei Ting Hong invited me onto her podcast @hugtohearttalk with Souperstar. We spoke about coaching, healing, consciousness, parenting, relationships and everything in between. This experience, apart from being absolutely energising (even though I was 27 weeks pregnant then!) made me realise that I have many thoughts and feelings towards these topics. The experience also reminded me of why I do the things I do in this world. I started my education career and my coaching practice with a single purpose: to make a difference to humanity. Over time, I realized that the deeper desire (purpose) is to grow ME and heal ME. 💕 This makes sense because who I am is… …how I teach… ...how I lead... …how I coach… …how I show up in life as a mother, wife, daughter, friend and more… And my healing and evolution is what truly enables me to make a difference to humanity. Even though I’m aspiring to serve as an independent director, wanting to bring diversity to RC and AC given my background in GRC (Governance, Risk and Compliance), I agree that mandating a genda quota might bring about unintended outcome as shared by Boon Gin Tan and might not be the most sustainable model for Singapore. Whilst such a policy would be very supportive for aspiring female first-time directors like myself, I want to be selected on the basis that I’m the best candidate to bring valued perspectives to the boardroom, not merely due to the mandated quota. It’s heartening to know that female directors are taking more leadership positions in board committees! #boardiversity #boardperformance #governance #risk #compliance

Stress ist in unserem hektischen Alltag oft unvermeidbar. Doch kleine, gezielte Atemübungen können helfen, innere Ruhe zu finden und den Körper zu entspannen. In meinen 30 Jahren Erfahrung mit Tai Ji Chuan, Qi Gong und Meditation habe ich gelernt, dass Atemtechniken einen großen Einfluss darauf haben, wie wir auf Stress reagieren. Es braucht nur ein paar Minuten, um sich spürbar zu erholen. Hier ist eine Technik, die ich oft anwende, wenn ich Ruhe und Klarheit brauche: - Stehe oder sitze bequem mit geschlossenen Augen und Mund. - Entspanne alle Gesichtsmuskeln. - Atme für 3 Sekunden langsam ein und spüre, wie die Luft durch deine Nasenlöcher eintritt.  - Halte den Atem nicht an, atme für 3 Sekunden langsam aus und spüre die Wärme des Atems, wie er durch die Nasenlöcher entweicht. Achte darauf, den 70%-Grundsatz zu beachten: Atme nur etwa 70% deines vollen Atemvolumens ein und aus, ohne deinen Atem zu erzwingen. - Atme weiterhin ruhig und bewusst. Spüre die Unterschiede zwischen Ein- und Ausatmung, die Feuchtigkeit beim Einatmen und die Wärme beim Ausatmen. - Wenn du beim Atmen Spannung in deinem Körper oder Geist bemerkst, lass sie mit dem Ausatmen los. Beim Einatmen erkennst du oft unbewusste Spannungen oder Emotionen, die du im Laufe des Tages vielleicht nicht beachtet hast. Diese Übung hilft, den Geist zu beruhigen und den Moment bewusster wahrzunehmen. Sie ist ein fester Bestandteil meines Rewire-Systems. Ich habe an etwas gearbeitet, das dir helfen wird, diese und andere Techniken einfach in deinen Alltag zu integrieren.
