"Transforming community health and revitalising lives - enhanced population health span for tomorrow." With that as our compelling vision and energising aspiration, we kick-start another chapter in a strategic partnership between SingHealth (Sengkang General Hospital) and Singapore Institute of Technology, started in 2022 and already boasting good collaborations across disciplines and both organisations. Without too much fanfare and a lot of camaraderie (infinitely more valuable!) we had a half-day Visioning Retreat on Sep 6 among colleagues, partners and friends old and new, rolling up our sleeves and ready to discover our synergies, dream, design and deliver off our dynamic platform for applied learning and research, driving innovation and improving population health in Singapore. We also introduce our #HealthLivingLab to take #future #appliedlearning and #research out of the classroom into the real world, our faculty and students working closely with the industry to solve #realworld challenges in health and healthcare. We will build relationships with the ecosystem including healthcare providers, #lifesciences companies, #digitalhealth and #medtech companies. There will be new #pedagogies, scaling up of #innovative solutions, to meet #community needs and #economic objectives of Singapore. It will also help realise the vision of #HealthierSG in the #northeast region, through work-ready healthcare workforce and new #channels to improve population health. Watch This Space! 𝐇𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐦𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨𝐝𝐚𝐲? Over half the women in India (57%), and nearly half the men (42%), do not get enough physical activity in India. The Lancet Global Health Journal has published this alarming statistics recently.   In the last 20 years, the percentage of ‘𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞’ adults in India has more than doubled! From about 22% to around 50%. The South Asian region, following the same trend, ranks 2nd in ‘physical inactivity’ in the world. 𝐍𝐨𝐰 𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞’𝐬 𝐚 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐫𝐧 - If this trend continues, over 60% of Indian adults could be declared unfit by 2030. They are highly likely to develop non-communicable diseases (NCDs) like #hypertension, #diabetes, and #heartdiseases.    What’s making us inactive? 🤔 Rise of the service industry and desk jobs? Does urbanisation have something to do with it? 😕 Lower participation in workforce and generally outdoors among women explains the higher burden of inactivity? I’d also bet on safe social spaces… In my personal exposure, I have met communities that are living the vicious cycle of 𝘭𝘰𝘸-𝘪𝘯𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘦 > 𝘭𝘰𝘸-𝘢𝘴𝘱𝘪𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 > 𝘭𝘰𝘸 𝘦𝘧𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘵 > 𝘭𝘰𝘸 𝘪𝘯𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘦! Now I know it’s not right to connect economic status with ‘activity’ (and some would argue the opposite), but I do believe need to consider the role of #mentalhealth in inactivity. Particularly mental health issues among low income communities.   How do you think we could fix it? There’s a global target of reducing inactivity by 15% by 2030. Some ideas here that may address the scale of this issue:   🏃‍♀️ Create and demand safe, free-of-charge and accessible public spaces for exercise - particularly in cities 🤸‍♀️ Join and amplify the health and fitness movements by folks like Revant Himatsingka (Food Pharmer) and Namita Thapar  🤼‍♀️ Set up group activities - sometimes one needs a group to break the personal barriers I’ll also say this - Large 𝐥𝐨𝐰-𝐜𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡 𝐜𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐬 sounds like a great startup proposition! If you’re thinking of investing in education or health, or starting up on your own, do consider setting up an affordable health centres! All those mushrooming around cater to a certain segment only. Exciting News for Senior Citizens! The Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) just took a giant leap towards inclusive healthcare by expanding its coverage to include all senior citizens aged 70 and above-regardless of income or social status! Now, seniors will benefit from: ✅ ₹5 lakh annual health insurance coverage for hospitalization and treatment in empaneled hospitals. ✅ Cashless and paperless access to quality healthcare. ✅ An additional top-up for seniors already covered under existing family policies. ✅ Options to choose between Ayushman Bharat or other public schemes like CGHS, ECHS, etc. This expansion aims to reduce the financial burden of elderly healthcare, ensuring they get the care they need without any extra stress. With India’s rapidly aging population, this initiative is a timely and much-needed step. Dementia Singapore shared the latest updates on young onset dementia (YOD) in Singapore with the rising trend. Persons diagnosed with dementia below 65 years old are classified as YOD. In Singapore, the National Neuroscience Institute estimates there are 3700 cases. The dementia cases here is expected to hit 150,000 in 2030. Question: What should be the pattern of distribution of Income, amongst members in family, country and society for a sustainable economy? Views of commoners as well as masters on the subject are solicited so that composite view can be forwarded not only to the who's who in India but across the world so as to finalise policies on the same. Further, just to start the discussion following excerpts from the chapter - 17, on the subject of the book "Alternate economy - Natural Systematic Economy", is presented below. It is said that, there is no free lunch in the world, and everybody has to pay for his/her lunch, either as post paid, prepaid or against delivery to the service provider, which in this case is, select family members, Local Society and national government. . Those who do not agree with this statement for them question do arise, under what obligation, somebody else will pay for their lunch and that too for years together or for one's entire life? A question also arises: what can be the best system by which one can pay for his/her lunches of their entire life, that is of childhood, adults, youth, senior citizen and of old age period? As a common sense, it can be said that the amount of one's childhood period can only be paid in future, which will stay as a debt to the Parents (mother and father), society/religion/Dharma and government. Further the amount of old age can only be paid as an advance to family members , society and government. Still further, the amount incurred during adulthood/youth can be paid at the same time and moreover this is the period when one can pay his/her past payment (of child hood) to their family member and advance payment for his/her future lunches to family members (future generation -Son and daughter), society/religion (local government ) and national government. 2 Considering the above to be a guideline, and considering the average age of humans to be hundred years, what can be the best distribution patterns of money/services one receive or give,' following which one can said to have paid for his/her lunches of entire life? Can offering or having such a distribution system be not adored by religion/dharma, or itself as per the dictates of Dharma. It gives gender equality and equality to local management handled by society/religion and broader management by national government in share holding. Does forgetting this distribution system is not an invitation to problems for all of us? 3. Calculation becomes easy if we take the optimum age of us to be a 100 years and then by taking this as percent wise than children (Son -Daughter) up to age of 25 years will receive 25%, of family income as a loan, Parents from age 51 -75 will receive 25%, as loan repayment, self and spouse (26-50) 25%, and society and government as taxes 25% to take care of people of age 76 -100 years. .

Would some of our big corporate houses like the Tatas, Birlas, Ambanis, Adanis, Kirloskars, Thapars, Sundaram Group, Muruguppa Gropu, Rane group, Ashok Leyland Group, Infosys, Wipro and similar organisations consider investing some money in building up a sustained campaign a) against drunken driving and b) for better observance of road safety rules and practices ? In addition, as part of their CSR could they consider building/installing 1. Building more footpaths, especially in all Tier 2 towns/cities 2. More Traffic Signals. 3. More Underpasses for pedestrians at busy crossings 4. Supporting Road Safety Patrol Volunteers with a Nominal Honorarium to control pedestrians & traffic at busy junctions throughout the country 5. Conduct Wear HELMET campaigns for 2 Wheeler Drivers and Pillion Riders with a 50 % Subsidy on Helmet Cost for a limited Period 6. Procurement and Placement of some 10,000 well-equipped Ambulances, distributed across all major National Highways throughout the country for providing emergency care and treatment to accident victims. This will dramatically reduce number of deaths caused by accident. I request all those who agree with the above suggestions to REPOST this POST. I also request them to send it to their known contacts who hold senior positions in various organisations to build up a suitable momentum for the above proposed actions by Corporates.

Our world is ageing very fast and I'm privileged to have been able to write about it for the second-most-read English-language newspaper in the world. #hindustantimes My key point in the piece is that access to health services isn't just a right, it's an economic imperative. Our future prosperity depends on each life being as productive as possible. That means giving each child the best start and each older person prevention and care that enables them to keeping working and contributing. Chandran Nair article raises existential questions to humanity for humanity; a silent transformation enabled and manifested by compulsion disorder and addiction to technology that is shaping the fabric of our humanity sense-of-self. "The societal, emotional, mental, and physical concerns about children’s use of mobile phones have persisted for years: reduced attention spans, increased anxiety, stunted problem solving, exposure to inappropriate and even damaging material – the list goes on and is growing. Yet there is no outcry by governments, at least until now." "The biggest surrender is that of parents, who are relinquishing the well-being and upbringing of their children to algorithms and the unscrupulous profit-making motives of tech companies and others in the digital eco-system. A near total collapse has taken place all over the world as the infection spreads unabated and even overtaken classrooms. This is truly unprecedented in human history.

As I will take the stage at the Out & Equal APAC Forum next month, I will keep in mind that while my work for the Asexual community and cause is driven by other sentiments, it also deeply impacts the way Asexual people are included and involved in #DEI practices in corporate India. Surely my commitment to advancing the human rights of asexual people is unwavering, but so is my deep interest in improving the future of work by ensuring inclusion of asexual identity groups.
