After establishing a strong presence in Saudi Arabia with their Riyadh office in 2020, Columbia Group is taking the next big step in its Middle East expansion. Saudi Aramco-sponsored International Maritime Industries, the Dhahran-headquartered shipbuilding and repair mega-yard, is the most recent addition to shipbuilding and repair capacity in the Middle East, and is now also the largest such facility in the region. With a solid shareholder base comprising Saudi Aramco - aramco, tanker owner Bahri | البحري, energy fabrication firm Lamprell, and South Korean shipbuilder HD Hyundai Heavy Industries, the new facility is in the enviable position of holding a guaranteed forward book worth $10bn over the next decade. Much of it is energy-related. Veteran repair man, Paul Friedberg, owner of NORDMARIN LLC (formerly Gmmostech) based in Dubai Maritime City (DMC), spoke to Seatrade about the current situation. “The repair and conversion market in the Arabian Gulf continues to stay strong,” he said. “There is definitely more demand for upgrades and retrofits and most companies in Dubai Maritime City, for example, are experiencing high workloads, with substantial orderbooks. 👉 Find out more in the full article from the Middle East Report 2024: https://lnkd.in/dZvM7J49

Providing an update on the progress with green corridors in conjunction with the Singapore International Bunkering Conference and Exhibition (Sibcon) the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) said the two Japanese shipping companies MOL and K-Line, and Singapore-headquartered Hafnia would be expected to spearhead a project to advance the corridor’s decarbonisation and digitalisation goals on the GDSC between the Lion City and the US West Coast gateway ports. The MSC Taranto lost five empty containers overboard on 2 October between 01:00 hrs and 04:00 hrs local time while sailing past South Africa, the South African Maritime Safety Authority (SAMSA) said. "The vessel, which is currently enroute to Colombo, Sri Lanka, reported that the containers - two (2) yellow and three (3) red -were lost at sea.
