  • On 30 August 2024, NVPC’s Chairman, Mr Chin-Siong Seah, graced Child at Street 11 Ltd’s 25th Anniversary Gala Dinner as the Guest-of-Honour, where he delivered a heartfelt speech. He spoke about the importance of early childhood education, the vital role of community support in shaping a more inclusive society, and how charities such as Child at Street 11 exemplify the spirit of a #CityofGood. At NVPC, we are glad to collaborate with and support such dedicated partners who are committed to uplifting communities and ensuring that every child, regardless of background, has the opportunity to thrive. Beyond empowering them with digital fundraising capabilities on giving.sg, they’ve joined us on strategic programmes such as State of Play — a ‘trade fair’ styled event that connects charities with potential corporate partners — and community-driven efforts like Giving Circles, resulting in valuable partnerships and impactful community engagement. Congratulations to Child at Street 11 on 25 years of making a difference, and we look forward to our continued collaboration! 🥳 #NVPC #CityofGood #singapore

👀So you want to be a director? It’s an alluring path for many. At the same time it can be a bit of a black box. Which is why I was glad to see the strong turnout at the Singapore Institute of Directors course yesterday which focused specifically on demystifying non-profit board directorship. 📌 Adrian Chan kicked off by articulating the director landscape. 📌 Tse Chuan Loong was bombarded with questions during the next segment on duties, responsibilities and liabilities. 📌 Kitson Leonard Lee spoke about the benefits of joining a non-profit board. 📌 Adrian, Kitson and I rounded off the program with a panel discussion, sharing our respective directorship journeys. Sharing three reflections on my end: 1️⃣ Don’t jump at the first thing that comes your way. Be clear about WHY you want to serve, WHAT cause resonates, and HOW you can contribute to an organisation. 2️⃣ Level up!! Invest in your learning (like everyone who joined the program yesterday). Be clear about the responsibilities you take on as a director. Learn about the organisation. Fill in those knowledge gaps. 3️⃣ Have a heart to serve. 💖 Serving on a non-profit board is a voluntary endeavour. I believe that most of us understand that we are stronger as a society if we can uplift everyone around us. So… please do step forward to serve. Be it as a director, committee member, or volunteer. But… be clear about your purpose and motivations. And… if you decide to serve on the board, remember to invest in your own development. For your sake, and for the sake of the cause and those you want to help. #boardofdirectors #governance #charities #nonprofit

  • Singapore ranks 3rd globally, out of 142 countries surveyed, in the Charities Aid Foundation (CAF)'s World Giving Index 2024 released yesterday, 22 August 2024.    To put the World Giving Index together, CAF surveyed a representative sample of residents in 142 countries, and scored each country from 0 to 100 for residents' answers to these questions:    • Have you donated money to charity?  • Have you helped a stranger or someone you didn’t know who needed help?  • Have you volunteered your time to an organisation?    This is Singapore’s highest-ever ranking, as our nation has jumped 19 spots from 2022. The CAF found that a higher rate of volunteering and philanthropy contributed the most to Singapore’s overall improvement, echoing our National Giving Study 2023’s insight about Singapore's post-pandemic rebound in giving.     This jump reflects our nation’s collective efforts towards doing good. NVPC will strive to continue nurturing a culture of giving in Singapore for years to come.       Check out the full World Giving Index 2024 report at: https://lnkd.in/epe2QHcC    #nvpc #cityofgood #worldgivingindex2024 #singapore #charitiesaidfoundation

  • On 21-22 June 2024, Leika Yvonne Mesa and Peihan Y. from the National Volunteer and Philanthropy Centre attended the 8th Annual Association for Research on Nonprofit Organisations & Voluntary Action (ARNOVA)-Asia Conference in Yonsei University, Seoul, South Korea. Through their presentation titled “Adaptations and Innovations in Singapore’s Nonprofit Sector”, they shared how people in Singapore led groundups and embraced digital giving in response to the challenges posed by the pandemic. Additionally, they highlighted the ways in which the giving space in Singapore fosters and encourages civic engagement and active citizenry, through the collaborative dynamic between the public and government organisations. The presentation drew upon NVPC’s Groundup Initiative Study (released in January 2024) and trends on digital giving via giving.sg. Our team also learned about the global non-profit sector’s latest research, bringing home connections for future partnerships and evaluative tools born from innovations in other countries’ non-profit sectors. Actively participating in research is one of many ways in which NVPC galvanises giving. With our researchers contributing to the body of knowledge in the non-profit sector, NVPC supports Singapore’s charities, companies, and people alike to make more informed decisions on effective giving.  #nvpc #cityofgood #research #nonprofit #covid19 #volunteerism #arnova #yonseiuniversity #연세대학교
