Our colleagues from Life and General Insurance in Indonesia participated in OCBC Society 2024, a community service project initiated by OCBC to improve the living conditions for the residents of Sirnajaya Village, West Bandung. The volunteers rolled up their sleeves for some major hands-on work that included the construction of pipelines, water tanks and public toilets, the installation of solar-powered street lights and electricity meters and even the procurement of public facilities and places of worship. Asia Pacific University of Technology and Innovation (APU / APIIT)'s School of Computing and Technology visits Great Eastern Life Malaysia (GELM) 🖥 On 25 July, a group of bright-eyed and enthusiastic students from APU's School of Computing and Technology attended an industrial visit to Great Eastern at Menara Great Eastern! This event was particularly exciting as it marked the first time Great Eastern welcomed computing and technology students, showcasing the significant role they can play in financial institutions. This visit provided the students with an opportunity to witness the application of their studies in a real-world setting, get to know professionals in the field, and explore a new industry where their skills are highly valued. The agenda for the day included tea time with Great Eastern's seasoned IT professionals for meaningful one-on-one conversations that offered a deeper understanding of the industry and potential career paths, a tour of the office, a forum discussion with senior representatives from our IT division, and a practical talk on money management and what to do when they get their first paycheck. Our industrial visits go beyond career prep; they're about gearing up for life after university! A huge thank you to our IT colleagues for creating such a warm and welcoming space for the students of APU and their lecturers, Umapathy Eaganathan and Dr. Aitizaz ALI, to learn more about Great Eastern and what it has to offer! Last month, our LIFE Programme’s challenge is all about making mindful eating choices! Our colleagues had to incorporate healthier eating habits as part of their daily routine, while involving their fellow colleagues and family. Some of the participants even prepared their own meals, showing off their culinary creativity and dedication to a healthier lifestyle! Colleagues were also invited to a Food Label Reading workshop to learn tips on deciphering food labels and what the healthier choice symbols mean on food packaging. More than 190 leaders in Singapore came together for our annual Leadership Huddle, a full-day workshop dedicated to embedding our values into our culture and daily interactions. This year, our leadership team committed themselves to building a culture of customer centricity, where they engaged in interactive activities and had insightful discussions on how they can embed these values into every aspect of our work. They got to interact with real-life customers who shared stories and provided invaluable insights into their needs and concerns. Great Eastern Malaysia spreads joy with 195kg of Toys! In the spirit of cultivating social wellbeing, our LIFE Programme team partnered with Play Unlimited Malaysia for their Re:Play Project, where we successfully gathered over 190kg of toys for our donation drive! Our amazing colleagues from all over Malaysia donated toys that their own kids once cherished, sharing memories and love with those who need it most. These preloved toys are to be redistributed to marginalised communities that have little to no access to learning materials. We are deeply moved by the outpouring of support and kindness from everyone involved. Thank you for helping us make a significant difference in these children’s lives. This is the highest national award among four categories under NVPC - Towards a City of Good revamped framework for the Company of Good recognition system in Singapore. GREAT EASTERN is among the 78 organisations that have been recognised with this top honour, which includes OCBC. Another 212 organisations are conferred the ‘Company of Good’ award that ranges between one to three hearts, with three hearts being the second highest tier award. The ‘Champion of Good’ award acknowledges and highlights organisations that are exemplary in doing good and have been engaging their partners and stakeholders on a collaborative journey.
