Meatball revolution at sea: 35 tons less meat on our vessels in 2025 🍴 By replacing half the meat in our beloved meatballs with yellow pea mince, we aim to reduce meat consumption by 35,000 kilos next year. “Taste and quality-wise, it’s as good as ever. But it makes a real difference for sustainability,” says Jakob Lells, Group Executive Chef at Stena Line. Our 50/50 meatballs will still bring all the classic flavours of home: creamy mashed potatoes, lingonberries, and gravy. This change builds on other impactful initiatives by Stena Line’s Food & Beverage team. By standardising menus across ships and cooking fresh to order, we’ve already seen a substantial drop in food waste. Now, with this change, we’re taking the next step towards a sustainable future. The new recipe means a reduction from 4.9 kilos of carbon dioxide equivalents to 1.3 per portion. “Stena Line’s strategy is to be a leader in sustainability, and this is our way of showing that we are fully committed," says Jakob. Look out for the new 50/50 meatballs on all Stena Line menus starting 13 February 2025! #WeAreStenaLine

We’re certified for our sustainability commitment – again! Our sustainability efforts are paying off! Earlier this month in Brussels, we proudly received a renewed certification from Green Marine Europe. This certification is a testament to our commitment to going beyond regulations in reducing our environmental impact. We’re honoured to be part of a community that shares a strong dedication to driving environmental change. “As sustainability is the single most important topic for our industry, I’m delighted to see the increased numbers of certified shipping companies. We all play a role in addressing environmental challenges, and collaboration is key to finding lasting solutions”, says Maria Tornvall, Group Head of sustainability at Stena Line. #WeAreStenaLine

What’s the recipe for high-quality dining onboard? 🍽 For the first time, Stena Line’s core menu in our casual dining restaurants fleet-wide have been determined through a cook-off. The Stena Line culinary team gathered in Kungshamn just north of Gothenburg in Sweden for a three-day cooking extravaganza, where the Stena Line Culinary team members from all the regions presented their finest dishes, using pre-selected proteins, carbs, and vegetables. Ultimately, 11 dishes earned a spot on the 2025 core menu. “We’re doing this to build trust with our guests. When you arrive at port you may have multiple ferry companies to choose from, we want you to know that by choosing Stena Line, you are guaranteed a high-quality meal onboard,” says Rikard Persson, Group Food & Beverage Manager at Stena Line. Many thanks to the Culinary team, Food & Beverage team, and Food & Beverage coordinators: Rikard Persson, Jakob Lells, Åsa Nilsson, Niclas Lilja, Markus Rotard, Thierry Granieri, Ulf Röbel, Rolands Scerbinkins, Robert Różyński, Stuart McGarva, Anders Olesen, Daniel Walterson, Forbes Fitzgerald, Lisa Hale, Rob Herndlhofer, Dave Pritchard and Daniel de Wildt. #WeAreStenaLine

Celebrating key milestones in the build of our NewMax ships: Stena Futura and Stena Connecta 🚢 We're excited to share that we've reached another significant milestone in the construction of our NewMax vessels. Last week, Stena Futura was successfully launched into the water, followed by the keel laying of our second ship, which will be named Stena Connecta. These two hybrid vessels will boost freight capacity by 40% on our Belfast-Heysham route, supporting the growing demand for services between Northern Ireland and Great Britain. Stena Futura and Stena Connecta are built to operate on methanol fuel and future-proofed with advanced technologies to utilise battery propulsion and shore power, once available. We're also collaborating with methanol suppliers to secure e-methanol, supporting our commitment to reducing CO2 emissions by 30% by 2030. “It’s exciting to witness the progress of our new ships, future-proofing our fleet and setting new industry standards to be part of the solution to climate change. These new vessels are the first RoRo ships equipped with a multi hybrid solution, enabling them to operate on battery, biofuel, and methanol. Stena Futura and Stena Connecta will provide a crucial link across the Irish Sea, addressing the growing demand from freight customers on this route.”, said Niclas Mårtensson, CEO, Stena Line. We look forward to welcoming Stena Futura to the Irish Sea in Autumn 2025.

It’s the little things that make an impact! As a part of our Sustainability month, our colleagues across our regions left their vessels and offices to head outdoors, removing litter and cleaning up our environment.🌍 Not only is it a great way to enjoy some fresh air and spend quality time together, but it also helps us do a part in protecting the seas and planet. Every effort, no matter how small, makes a difference, reminding us that together, we can create cleaner, healthier communities for everyone. Sustainability is our ongoing commitment, not just during Sustainability month. Learn more about our work here: https://lnkd.in/dfbZ94t9

We’re excited to announce that we, in partnership with Associated British Ports (ABP), can now officially commence work on a new freight terminal at the Port of Immingham, following the UK Government’s approval of the Development Consent Order (DCO). This milestone comes after our long-term agreement with ABP, securing ferry operations for the next 50 years. As demand in the unaccompanied freight market continues to grow, this new terminal will allow us to meet that demand, expand capacity, and operate larger vessels, enhancing trade connectivity between the UK and Continental Europe. Niclas Mårtensson, CEO of Stena Line, shared, "We are very pleased that the Secretary of State has approved the new RoRo terminal at the Port of Immingham. The port is of great strategic importance to Stena Line, and this long-term commitment will be integral to expanding our freight operations between the UK and Continental Europe, further strengthening our position in the North-East England market." We look forward to starting construction in 2025 and building on the collaboration further to secure long-term value for our customers and support the future of UK trade growth.
