i/ˈrɛdɪŋ/ RED-ing) is a lairge toun an unitary authority aurie in Ingland. It is locatit in the Thames Valley at the confluence o the River Thames an River Kennet, an on baith the Great Western Main Line railwey an the M4 motorway, some 40 mile (64 km) wast o Lunnon.
The Borough of Reading haes a population o 145,700 (2008 estimate) an the toun formit the lairgest pairt o the Reading/Wokingham Urban Aurie which haed a population o 369,804 (2001 census). The toun is currently representit in the UK parliament bi twa members, an haes been continuously representit thare syne 1295. For ceremonial purposes the toun is in the coonty o Berkshire an haes servit as its coonty toun syne 1867, previously sharin this status wi Abingdon.[3]
