Aghstafa (Azerbaijani: Ağstafa; Roushie: Акстафа) is a rayon in northwastren Azerbaijan.

Then on 14 Aprile 1990 bi the decree o the Cooncil o Deputees o Azerbaijan SSR, it wis split frae Qazakh raion an wis again re-established as a separate raion. The regional centre o the raion is its caipital Ağstafa. The raion is locatit in the northwastren pairt o the kintra, atween Qabirri basin an Lesser Caucasus muntain range, an Ganja-Qazakh lawlands an Ceyrançöl highlands. It is sandwiched bi Qazakh raion in the wast an Tovuz raion in east, an borders Armenie on the soothren frontier an Georgie on the north. The aurie o the raion is 1,503.7 km2. Etymology
[eedit | eedit soorce]The aurie's name comes frae the name o the Oghuz Turks which include mainly the population o Azerbaijan, Turkey an Turkmenistan. Ağstafa is a merger o twa wirds: Oğuz + tayfa (Oghuz + tribe). Housomeivver, some fowk argue that it is a merger o the ither twa wirds which are: Oğuz + təpə (Oghuz + hill).[1]
