Marta Laranjo is a Microbiologist and Molecular Biologist, assistant professor and senior researcher, Universidade de Évora, Portugal. She holds a Ph.D. in Biology, and is a senior researcher at MED-Mediterranean Institute for Agriculture, Environment and Development (Food Science and Technology Group) CHANGE-Global Change and Sustainability Institute (Associate Laboratory), IIFA-Institute for Research and Advanced Training, and a professor at the Department of Veterinary Medicine, Sciences and Technology School, both at the University of Évora, Portugal. She is also the President of the UNIMED Subnetwork on Food & Water (UNIMED Office at the University of Évora). Her main interests include food microbiology, with a special emphasis on starter cultures and the dynamics of food microbiota. She has published more than 50 papers in international peer-reviewed journals. She has supervised 3 Ph.D., 5 Master's, and more than 30 undergraduate students.
