Research:
Studies on copper enzyme superoxide dismutase
Involvement of ROS and role of antioxidants in models of pathophysiological conditions (AIDS, cardiac and cerebral ischemia, genetic diseases, and cancer cells).
Mechanisms of activation and toxicity of xenobiotics and drugs (bipyridils, quinones, and nitrofurans) in cell models and in subcellular fractions (mitochondria and microsomes).
Mechanisms of cell death, with particular focus on oxidative stress, mitochondrial damage, and apoptosis, in cell or animal models of genetic or experimentally-induced alterations of copper homeostasis.
Involvement of the alterations of copper homeostasis in diseases (Alzheimer’s, ALS, and cancer) in both patients and cell systems.
Studies on the enzyme SSADH and on the involvement of the GABA metabolism in Alzheimer’s disease .
