Information

Jeroen Degroote currently works as a doctor-assistant at the Laboratory for Animal Nutrition and Product Quality (LANUPRO) at Ghent University. He graduated as a doctor of bioscience engineering in 2019. His thesis focused on the glutathione redox status of weaner piglets, and ongoing research continues to investigate the bioenergetics and redox regulation of piglet gut health. Jeroen has a passion for pigs and hence contributes to education and research on pig production. At the crossroads between pig production systems, nutrition and health, Jeroen is devoted to the implementation of data-driven animal nutrition. He investigates the potential of computer vision applications to monitor the behavior of weaned piglets, and makes use of automated weighing scales and electronic feeder systems to model the weaning perturbation, allowing for nutritional interventions to support animals in need.
