Information

Andrea Lazzeri is Head of the Center for Materials Science and Engineering and President of the Master of Science Degree program in Materials and Nanotechnology at the University of Pisa. He is also CEO of Planet Bioplastics srl, a spin-off company of the University of Pisa. He graduated in Chemical Engineering in 1982 (University of Pisa). Then, in 1991, he obtained his Ph.D. in Advanced Materials (Cranfield University). In 1984, he became a researcher at the University of Pisa. In 1999, he was a visiting scientist at MIT, Boston. In 2002, he became an Associate Professor at the University of Pisa and, later, in 2008, became a Full Professor in the Department of Civil and Industrial Engineering of the same university, where he teaches materials science and engineering, biobased polymers and composites, composites, plastic processing, and polymer characterization. He is also a Professor of Materials Science and Technology at the Naval Academy in Livorno. During the last two decades, his major research projects have dealt with processing and mechanical properties of polymer matrix, and ceramic–matrix composites, as well as biobased and/or biodegradable polymers for environmental applications. He has been the coordinator of three European projects: Forbioplast, Helm, and NanoCathedral.
