Maria Elena Crespo-Lopez received her Ph.D degree in Biochemistry at Universidad de Granada, Spain in 1999, and finished her post-doctoral fellowships on population genetics and neurodegenerative diseases in 1999–2003. She has been a professor at the Institute of Biological Sciences, Federal University of State of Pará (UFPA), Brazil since 2006. She was a director of the Ph.D Program in Neuroscience and Cell Biology of the UFPA from 2011 to 2013. She has been a director of the Ph.D Program in Pharmacology and Biochemistry of the UFPA since 2020.
