A coil manufacturer with operations in Chesterfield County plans to invest $22 million and expand its 451 Southlake Blvd. facility, which will bring in 160 jobs.
“We want to make sure we steward the company with growth that is acceptable for hiring people and making sure we bring people that fit our values,” Super Radiator Coils President and CEO Rob Holt said during Friday’s announcement. “That takes time, and that takes a deliberate growth strategy.”
The county worked with the Virginia Economic Development Partnership to secure the project. A $610,000 grant from the Commonwealth’s Development Opportunity Fund was approved by Gov. Glenn Youngkin to aid the expansion.
“We’re singularly focused, especially in commerce and trade, to make it easier to start and grow a business like this great one,” said Juan Pablo Segura, Virginia’s chief deputy secretary of commerce and trade. “We’re going to continue to invest in the business community so that we continue to raise wages, continue to build great businesses and invest in folks like yourself.”
SRC manufactures specialty coils and heat exchangers that serve several industries, particularly data centers and commercial and industrial HVAC.
Founded in 1928, the family-owned company is headquartered in Chaska, Minnesota, and has operated in Chesterfield since 1980. The company also has facilities in Phoenix.
The Chesterfield facility will add approximately 80,000 square feet of space, bringing the total to more than 240,000 square feet. Upgraded machinery will be included with the expansion.
This will be the fourth expansion of SRC’s Chesterfield operations; it is scheduled to begin in 2025 and wrap up in mid-2026. The last expansion was completed in 2022.
“The board is committed to supporting initiatives that create jobs and foster business growth in our region,” said Clover Hill District Supervisor Jessica Schneider. “It is especially exciting when a company that has called Chesterfield home for so many years continues to invest in expanding operations locally.”
About 400 people are employed at the Chesterfield facility; the 160 new jobs will span across different fields, including engineering, manufacturing and office administration. The Virginia Talent Accelerator Program will support job creation at SRC.
“This expansion builds on a 44-year history of Super Radiator Coils in the Commonwealth and strengthens Virginia’s position as a leader in advanced manufacturing,” Youngkin said in a statement.
“Virginia’s job growth in the manufacturing sector and business climate continue to thrive, thanks to announcements like this, and my administration is proud to support Super Radiator Coils’ continued growth and success,” he added.
Matt Holland, Richmond Division vice president at Super Radiator Coils, and Jessica Schneider, Clover Hill District supervisor, hold commemorative coils at the expansion announcement on Friday. “It is especially exciting when a company that has called Chesterfield home for so many years continues to invest in expanding operations locally,” Schneider said.
