RESUMO
ABSTRACT
Testicular neoplasms are quite common in non-neutered dogs, affecting mainly the
elderly, with cryptorchidism being a very relevant risk factor for the development of
this pathology. The predominant histological types are Sertoli cells, Leydig cells and
germ cell Seminomas. They have a low metastatic index, the treatment of choice is
surgical though orchiectomy with a good prognosis and curative purpose, but
adjuvant treatments with antineoplastics agents are used when necessary. This
integrative literature review aims to describe the anatomical and physiological
aspects of the dog´s reproductive system, describe the pathophysiology of testicular
neoplasm and the characteristics of the histological types, address the clinical
finding, the main diagnostic methods, the treatment strategies currently used as well
as future perspectives with emphasis on the immunohistochemistry technique that
has been bringing new alternatives to assist in the diagnosis of testicular neoplasm. It
is common knowledge that cancer has a great impact on the mortality of small
animals, therefore, with the increase in life expectancy on companion animals, it is
increasingly sought to invest in prevention methods, thus avoiding exposure to
carcinogenic factors to long term.
