ABSTRACT
The breast cancer represents a serious public health problem all over the world, for
its high incidence, morbidity and high cost of treatment. It is known that women, after
receiving the diagnosis of breast cancer and also with the possibility of surgery for
mastectomy start to face differents personal conflicts. The removal of the breast of
the body, can cause severe damage to the woman and may leave her embarrassed,
causing strong emotional repercussions. The objective of this research was to
analyze nursing care to women facing mastectomy according to the Theory of
Adaptation of Callista Roy. It is a bibliographic review on the based on indexed
articles and books related to the object of this study. The nursing process according
to Roy permitted to visualize the importance of using a theoretical model in the
implementation of the systematization of nursing assistance, considering
mastectomy, was realized that it brings psychological and physical stimulus, requiring
a woman's response, which may be adaptive, accepting her the health / disease, or
ineffective, being difficult to their rehabilitation.
