This holiday was great. I managed to rest and to
go to the beach. It was fun but I did miss my
friends. I’m happy to come back to school
because now I can be with my friends every
day. We can also make TikToks during our
breaks. I don’t like homework and tests but I do
like coming to school every day.

Exercise 1
Person 1: So, Tom, what was your summer holiday like? Did you have fun?
Tom: Well, I kind of did actually as you can see by my tan. My family and I went to the Algarve. We would go to the beach every day. The
weather was fantastic, so I got a really good suntan. I also made a few new friends. I’ve been speaking to them every day on social media, so
yeah, my summer was pretty cool!
Person 1: How about you Camilla?
Camilla: Well, I just stayed at home, so it was pretty boring really. I’d get up after 10 every day and just do nothing. I mean, I’d play a few video
games and chat with my friends. I also watched my favourite series and sometimes I’d go out. All in all, it was pretty boring to tell you the truth!
Person 1: Oh, I see. What about you Jack?
Jack: Well, my family and I went to the Caribbeans. I had never been on a plane before, so I was really excited. I loved having to show my
passport, yes, I have a passport! At Passport control. I felt all grown up. Then the Caribbeans are even better than everyone says it is. I think it’s
paradise on Earth.
Person 1: Sounds magnificent! What about you Delilah?
Delilah: Well, I had a calm holiday. I spent a whole month with my cousins in the village. We visited my grandparents. They loved it and so did we.
We’d go and swim in the river every day and sometimes we’d go for long walks. The best part was the local summer festival. It was loads of fun!
Person 1: Oh, I’ll have to go next year then. What about you Nick?
Nick: Well, I worked this summer. I got a part-time job at a summer camp. My job was to look after the kids during meal times. I had to make sure
that they ate and that they behaved themselves. It was ok. The only problem is that now we are back at school and I’m already feeling a bit tired.
Person 1: Oh dear!

Read the text.

So, the summer holidays are over and it’s back to school again. How does that make you
feel? Do you feel anxious about all the homework and the tests that cause us all a lot of
anxiety and stress? Experts say that we should focus on the good things of going back to
school to avoid getting depressed or even have a panic attack. Here are a few tips to help
you do just that.
1. Find someone to go to school with.
Studies show that when you have someone to hang out with it helps you relax and see
things in a different light. So, find out if anyone in your class lives near you and invite
them to go with you to school every day. Who knows, they might turn out to be your BFF!
2. Focus on the positive aspects of school.
Whatever happens always bear in mind that you get to see your friends every day just
because you go to school. Enjoy break times and the precious moments that you get to
spend together! They’ll be over before you know it!
3. Don’t procrastinate.
This means that you should make an effort to get organized. Sit down and plan a work
schedule. Decide which subject you are going to study for every day and when you are
going to do your homework. This will help you enjoy your leisure time without feeling
guilty.
Finally, do one thing at a time. The key to success is staying calm and focusing on what
you can do rather than on what you can’t!
