In 2009, Winter lost her father to a very aggressive form of prostate cancer and has since been competing in his name. Winter ran her 1st marathon when she was 5, and has since broken all types of records for her age group - most recently placing first in the '19 and under' category at the Eugene Marathon and 2nd at the IronKids championship in Orlando Florida.
