He has been locked up for 20 days in the Argentinean embassy since the day his troops were defeated on the so called "Placilla disaster". He is a president without a government. A man far away from his family to whom the only thing left is a piece of paper written by him with where he would try and defend his ambitious project from the judgement of time. The president is upset. He looks back on his life and tries to understand how his declarations for the development of the country resulted on one of the bloodiest social outbreaks in the history of Chile. The president will not see the dawn. Balmaceda approaches one of the most hectic periods of the Chilean national history. The film has the point of view of a man who aimed at a lot more than his time was ready to accept. It is a tale of heroic deeds and achievements, from the view of a patriot over a country that was awakening to its reality as a nation. See less
