Phillips learns that he has been swindled. Later he meets Jimmy and telling him he is too clever to be wasting his time with crooks, gets him to join his forces. Jimmy gladly does so and resists all efforts of the gang to win him back or make him crooked in his dealings with Phillips. Phillips neglects his wife and a business friend, Gedney, makes most of the marital rift by making love to her in the husband's absence. A big deal comes up and the gang move every possible wheel to break Phillips through it. Certain papers have to be signed by Phillips at three o'clock on a mentioned day. It is this same day and hour that Gedney coaxes Mrs. Phillips to run off with him. The gang send a decoy telegram to Phillips, getting him out of town and he leaves a power of attorney with Jimmy, emphasizing the fact that if the papers are not signed when the man calls at the mentioned hour he will be ruined. Jimmy tells him he will take care of it and reiterates the fact that he is not in with the gang. Phillips believes him and leaves. When the wife leaves to meet Gedney, the maid tries to dissuade her, but to no purpose. Frantic, she hastens to Jimmy and implores his aid. The hour is the same and it is a question in Jimmy's mind which to sacrifice, the woman or the fortune. He decides to sacrifice the latter, hastens to the tryst and in the altercation that follows, knocks Gedney down and gets the wife to return home. He gets back too late to sign the papers and the gang win out ruining Phillips. Phillips returns home that night realizing he has been duped. He learns that Jimmy failed him and accuses the boy at his home of being a traitor and playing into the hands of his gang. Jimmy will not explain why he didn't sign the papers and Phillips in his anger would have killed him if Mrs. Phillips had not entered at that moment and explained all. She is forgiven and a new and better future opens up for all three. Written by
