Until in 1962 Bertrand Collin du Bocage and Georges Martin du Nord bought a collection of forty canvases signed with a stylized 'K' monogram at the Paris flea market. Thus a genius was rediscovered. Indeed after some research work the two men found out that 'K' stood for Kalmakoff. Born in 1873, this former Russian aristocrat exiled in Paris - where he lived as a hermit - had painted hosts of very original paintings mirroring all his obsessions. Annie Tresgot explores Nicolas Kalmakoff's art while paying tribute to Collin du Bocage and Martin du Nord, his discoverers. Written by Guy Bellinger See less
