Many times Dolores asks why the house she lives in was never finished and why she must always remain on the island, but Blanca refuses to tell her. On the mainland only a short distance from the secluded island in the little village there, the house is known as the property of the "mad American." This man, Dolores' father, lives on the mainland and disappears occasionally, returning always with very valuable rough diamonds. Don Pedro, an unscrupulous fellow, determines to learn the whereabouts of the diamond mine so that he can become rich. He learns that he could find out the locality of the mine on the Winthrop island and he makes the journey there. But Don Pedro's plans do not run as smoothly as he anticipated. On the island also is Spencer Crosby of New York, a fellow whose hobby is the hunting of bugs. He meets Dolores, and the two fall in love. Pedro tells Blanca that the "mad American" is ill on the mainland and that he has sent him for the plans of the diamond mine. She refuses to believe him. The two fight and Blanca is fatally wounded. Foiled in one respect, Pedro determines to make off with Dolores, but Crosby comes to the rescue. As Blanca dies she reveals to the girl her parentage and tells her to seek her father on the mainland. Spencer goes with her to the town, where they find the old fellow. They manage to restore his reason by dwelling on past events of his life. Pedro is killed in a fight with Crosby. Written by Motion Picture News, January 4, 1919 See less
