I'm Falanaa, and I refuse to work at PKR 2/word as a writer... I can't churn out 3000 words a day for a PKR 40,000/- salary. I don't use ChatGPT to complete my tasks. I don't copy and paste stuff. (this post has been rolling out in my feed since morning).. It's disheartening to see how trends can set unrealistic expectations for early-stage writers. I encourage everyone to talk about how we can set different expectations and outcomes. If salary is the only measure of success from a company or agency, we risk being valued solely by our paychecks rather than our experience, education, and exposure. Let's focus on the full picture of professional growth and development.

My starting rate was 0.5 pkr per word. (My first earning was just 500 pkr.) When I started freelancing back in 2021, I had no clue where to start.  → No prior guidance.  → No experience.  → No... anything. But I was hungry to learn and earn. - I couldn’t even get proper guidance. - I couldn’t take famous courses. - I couldn’t afford $$$ coaching. - I couldn’t buy any fancy tools. Life wasn’t as easy as I expected. I didn’t have generational wealth to rely on. No streamlined guidance to follow. No family business to join. I had none of that... But I had to earn. → To fulfill my needs. → To fulfill my parents’ dreams. → To fill the voids of my younger siblings. All I had was resilience and rebellion. → I started working on myself from scratch. → I took low-paying gigs just for experience. → I worked 16 hours a day, balancing university and work. I just wanted to... - Groom Myself. - Stand by Myself. - Make Myself Proud. Life was a rollercoaster. It was full of doubts and uncertainties. It was filled with struggle and hard work. But do you know what was different in my story? What made me proud in the end? - I believed in myself when no one did. - I endured countless sleepless nights. - I fought with endless uncertainties. - I never gave up on my struggles. - I never surrendered to failures. - I never gave up on hard work. And finally: After so much struggle... - I made my parents proud. - I made my siblings proud. - Most importantly, I made myself proud. - I know many like me are starting their journey. - Some are grinding through brutal struggles. - Some are on the verge of giving up. To all of them, I just want to say: - No one will stand for you until you stand for yourself. - No one will clap for your small wins but you. - No one will embrace your failures but you. Alhamdulillah! I didn't check my freelance accounts frequently and didn't ask for reviews, as I know the quality of my work. However, it has never happened that I provide my services and don't receive reviews and appreciation maximum times even getting tips. The thing is i always focus on providing value.
