Description

This task collects all work related to the Technical Documentation Team's community outreach initiative planned in 2024-25.

Outcome

Three new documentation-related communication channels are available to all contributors:

  • Brainstorm outreach ideas.
  • Investigate previous and similar initiatives.
  • Formulate the outreach initiative proposal.
  • Share the proposal with the Technical Documentation Team, gather feedback, improve.

I am currently working on a plan for this initiative. This involves:

  • brainstorming around different outreach ideas
  • investigating previous and similar initiatives as well as community outreach best practices
  • meeting with people previously involved in such initiatives

I'm hoping to finish the planning phase and expand the description of this task by 6 September.

Next iteration is almost ready and will be shared with the team this week. It includes an expanded plan and new priorities. I'll update this task after the new proposal is reviewed.

Phase 2 of this project is now done. The #wikimedia-techdocs IRC channel is up and running, the review and consultation process is in place, and the Events page already has some useful content. I have also sent an announcement to wikitech-l about these developments. Big thanks to @apaskulin and @TBurmeister for their help and feedback during this stage!

Setting this task to stalled for now as we consider our next steps.

We have a few ideas for other outreach initiatives, but these will be investigated and managed as separate tasks in the future. Resolving this task.
