Joanne is a Chemical Engineer and an Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Consultant with two decades of HSE experience across diverse industries, covering petroleum, manufacturing, services, telecommunications, business process outsourcing, academia, and IT/Software Development. Her unwavering commitment lies in fostering organizational excellence by protecting people, the environment, and business.
She has held international HSE leadership roles and collaborated extensively with multifaceted teams, both domestically and globally. Her expertise encompasses Safety Leadership, Holistic Safety, Process Safety, Occupational Safety and Health, Six Sigma Black Belt and Process Improvement, Environmental Management, proficiency in various Management Systems, and Organizational Development to name a few.
Beyond her corporate pursuits, Joanne served as a part-time faculty member at De La Salle University (DLSU) Taft and Central Philippine University (CPU) Iloilo, within their Chemical Engineering Department. In the academe, she teaches Occupational Safety and Health for Engineers, Process Safety, Chemical Process Industries, Chemical Reaction Engineering, and Engineering Management. Furthermore, she holds a Postgraduate Degree in Biblical Studies from Asian Theological Seminary.
Aside from engaging with local Safety organizations and the Philippine Institute of Chemical Engineers (PIChE), Joanne holds memberships with esteemed international bodies such as the UK's Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) and the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE).
Currently, she is the President and General Manager of Rethink Safety, Inc., the First Filipino Safety Technology Company, that created RethinkEHS, a pioneering Safety and Risk Management Software in the Philippines, that is proudly Filipino but Globally competitive.

How do you recognize safety excellence in your workplace?
Safety Excellence is more about a Company's culture, attitude, and values towards Safety. Here are 3 signs for me to detect Safety Excellence: 1. Strong Leadership - All Managers follow Company Safety policies and procedures. They do not have a "Follow what I say but do not follow what I do" attitude. They are role models of Safety. 2. Proactive Safety Management System - The company does not wait for an incident, they address hazards proactively. An example is the use of Tools such as Technology for advanced and proactive Safety Management. 3. Genuine Care for each other - The employees themselves don't need the Safety Officers to check on them; instead, they check on each other and hold each other accountable for Safety.
