Jordan Underlines Commitment to Supporting Syrian Refugees, Regional Stability


Amman, Jan. 14 (Petra) - Minister of Interior Mazen Faraya met with Gilles Michaud, the UN Under-Secretary-General for Safety and Security, on Tuesday to discuss regional developments and Jordan's ongoing efforts to support United Nations initiatives.

Faraya highlighted Jordan's facilitation of UN programs across Syria, the West Bank, and Gaza, emphasizing the need for continued support to Syria, particularly in aiding Syrian refugees and ensuring their safe, voluntary return.

He reaffirmed Jordan's commitment to its humanitarian role, pledging support for Syria's rebuilding and cooperation with the UN to achieve regional security and stability.

He also underscored the urgency of aiding the West Bank and Gaza, advocating for Jordan's role as a crucial conduit for humanitarian assistance. Faraya stressed the importance of quick delivery of relief, medical, and shelter supplies to alleviate the dire conditions in these areas.

Michaud reiterated the UN's commitment to expanding its programs and collaborating with Jordan to support Syrians and strengthen humanitarian responses in Gaza.

He highlighted the need for coordinated international efforts to deliver timely aid to the West Bank and Gaza Strip.
