Yesterday, the nominees for the 50th Annual GRAMMY Awards were announced, and deceased musicians Sergio Gómez of K-Paz de la Sierra and Valentín Elizade each earned a spot in the Best Banda Album category.

Elizalde's album Lobo domesticado and Conquistando corazones from the K-Paz lead singer will compete for the gramophone against productions from El Potro de Sinaloa, El Chapo and Lupillo Rivera.

Elizalde was killed in November of last year, while Gómez was kidnapped and found dead four days ago. Both musicians were attacked after giving performances in Mexico. The case of deceased singer Zayda Peña Arjona is another example of the slew of violence that's been sweeping the grupera music world in the Aztec country.

The GRAMMY Awards will air on Feb. 8, 2008, on CBS.
