After a week off for the vice presidential debate, Dancing with the Stars returned on Monday, Oct. 7, with a pre-taped episode — the first of two nights of competition this week.

Eleven couples entered the ballroom for Soul Train Night, which saw actress Rosie Perez join as a guest judge alongside Carrie Ann Inaba, Derek Hough and Bruno Tonioli.

In the first elimination of the season, Beverly Hills, 90210 star Tori Spelling and notorious scammer Anna Delvey got sent home. When asked by host Julianne Hough what she learned from her time on the show, Anna, born Anna Sorokin, bluntly replied, “Nothing.”

Anna, 33, said on the Sept. 28 episode of Tori’s podcast misSPELLING that she gave that response simply “because that was the truth.”

“You guys told me what I'm supposed to do. I tried to do it and then I still was rejected,” continued Anna, who competed with an ankle bracelet while she remains under house arrest amid an ongoing dispute about her deportation. “And, I'm taking away nothing. This is what I'm taking away from it, because your advice was worthless.”

Anna’s partner Ezra Sosa appreciated the sentiment and later got a tattoo of the word “nothing” alongside “33” to represent season 33 of the show.

Chandler Kinney seemed to have made a permanent mark on the leaderboard, ending the Oct. 7 episode at the top again with Brandon Armstrong. Bachelor Nation's Joey Graziadei and Jenn Tran delivered steamy performances that earned them high scores, too.

Despite doing a dance that moved Carrie Ann to tears, Reginald VelJohnson remained at the bottom of the leaderboard, as did Eric Roberts and his sentimental Foxtrot.

Read along to find out who got down and who needed to bring more boogey on Soul Train Night.

No Souls Go Home on Soul Train Night

October 07, 2024 10:10 PM EDT

Chandler and Brandon, Joey and Jenna, and Sasha and Jenn filled the top three spots on the leaderboard, while Reginald and Emma, Dwight and Daniella, and Eric and Britt sat at the bottom. Alfonso announced that there wouldn't be any eliminations until the couples compete again on Oct. 8's Hair Metal Night — which will feature Gene Simmons as a guest judge — but it would be another double elimination.

Chandler Kinney Fights to Stay on Top

October 07, 2024 10:04 PM EDT

Brandon Armstrong wanted to make sure he and Chandler Kinney stayed at the top of the leaderboard, so he brought in original Soul Train dancer Reggie Thornton to help them better understand the era.

Chandler, 24, thought that if she and Brandon, 30, could follow Reggie's advice, then "we can see even higher scores."

Chandler and Brandon made their Cha Cha to Run-DMC's "It's Tricky" look like a piece of cake.

"Your musicality was there, your rhythm was there and your passion was there," Rosie said. "The only critique that I want to say to you young girl is: let ur sexuality explode."

The Bachelorette Turns Up the Heat

October 07, 2024 09:55 PM EDT

With her ex Jonathan Johnson watching in the studio, Jenn Tran aimed to bring the seductive moves when she performed a Viennese Waltz with Sasha Farber.

"This is about a man woman, their passion," Sasha explained to Jenn, 26, during rehearsal. "I want fire, sexiness."

The Bachelorette thought that could be an issue for her. "I want it to look like elegant and sexy," she said. "I've just never seen myself in that kind of a light."

The pair moved around the dance floor to "Fallin'" by Alicia Keys.

"That was such a sexy — I'm sorry, it was one of the sexiest Viennese Waltzes I've ever seen," Bruno said.

Carrie And and Rosie agreed. "I loved it," the Flight Attendant star said. "It was hot."

Reginald VelJohnson Hopes for Sunnier Days Ahead

October 07, 2024 09:44 PM EDT

Reginald VelJohnson credited his partner Emma Slater with keeping him going in the competition.

"I love Emma," the actor, 72, said. "It has become a very wonderful friendship. I couldn’t move without her. My legs feel like soup."

Reginald put on a raincoat to do the Foxtrot with Emma, 35, to "I Can See Clearly Now" by Jimmy Cliff.

"It's like watching my grandpa out there dance, you know?" Derek said to Reginald. "And that makes me so happy."

The routine brought Carrie Ann to tears. "There's something so sweet and innocent when you dance," she told the Die Hard star. "I wish I could give you 10s and 10s just for getting out there and showing us that kind of beautiful joy."

Danny Amendola Does a Foxtrot Worth Flipping For

October 07, 2024 09:31 PM EDT

Danny Amendola tackled a Foxtrot with Witney Carson to "Dancing Machine" by The Jackson 5, which inspired the former NFL star to attempt to Moonwalk. "I'm working on it,” he joked.

Still, Danny, 38, welcomed the challenge. "I'm excited that America gets to see a more debonaire version of me," he said.

Similar to Joey, the ex-wide receiver incorporated a backflip into his performance, except Danny's saw him jump over Witney, 30.

"Stay on this path, great job," Derek said to Danny.

Bruno advised Danny, "You have to learn to become lyrical."

An NBA Star Drops the Ball

October 07, 2024 09:20 PM EDT

Dwight Howard and Daniella Karagach worried their Cha Cha wouldn't be a slam dunk due to travel commitments that compromised their rehearsal time.

"We got barely any practice, so I am stressing out because the Cha Cha's the hardest dance we're gonna do all season," Daniella, 31, told the cameras. "And we are learning to do this in two days."

The former NBA star, 38, admitted, "I'm really nervous."

The pair danced a Cha Cha to "Let’s Groove" by Earth, Wind & Fire, which Dwight's mom watched from the ballroom.

"That was hard to watch," Carrie Ann told Dwight and Daniella.

Bruno felt similarly. "You gotta work on your technique," he told Dwight. "Actually, you lost it completely in a section there. You were literally making it up."

The Bachelor Brings the Crowd to Their Feet

October 07, 2024 09:09 PM EDT

Despite being tied for third last place week, Joey wanted to do better.

"I want to do something surprising or like epic," Jenna said during rehearsal.

The reality star tossed out the idea of doing a backflip. "I haven’t landed a backflip since high school," Joey said. "I was a cheerleader a very long time ago."

Joey and Jenna did a Jive to "Shout" by The Isley Brothers that received a standing ovation from the crowd.

Derek thought the Bachelorette alum "nailed" the backflip. "You had more moves than U-Haul," Derek said to Joey.

Bruno said Joey was "totally on it all the time" and "never missed a beat."

Rosie bluntly told Joey, "Your sex appeal is amazing."

Brooks Nader and Gleb Savchenko Put Their 'Great Chemistry' on Display

October 07, 2024 08:58 PM EDT

Brooks threatened to do a dance "so sexy that my whole family watching back home is going to have to turn the TV off."

During rehearsal, Gleb informed Brooks they'd be dancing a Rumba to "Sexual Healing" by Marvin Gaye.

"That’s real life," the Sports Illustrated model said.

Gleb joked to Brooks that the performance should be "sexy, very intimate — though we will have to work really hard on that one."

"It's definitely a huge bonus that Gleb and I have such great chemistry, so we are going to use that to our advantage," Brooks said.

Brooks and Gleb narrowly held off on kissing at the end of their routine.

"That dance made me pregnant," Derek joked.

Superstitions Get the Boot

October 07, 2024 08:49 PM EDT

Gymnast Stephen Nedoroscik wanted to keep busting his irrational fears by doing a Quickstep to Stevie Wonder's "Superstition."

"Back in 2021 when I didn't make that Olympic team, I decided, we're just going to crush every superstitions," the bronze medalist, 25, told his partner Rylee Arnold. "I won World Champions and I kinda of realized, superstitions are a little silly."

Pommel Horse Guy pummeled those superstitions indeed.

"Clark Kent — I mean Stephen — you are so cute," Rosie, 60, said, adding, "a little stiff, but you're so cute."

Eric Roberts Gives It His All for His Wife

October 07, 2024 08:38 PM EDT

Pro Britt Stewart didn't want to be at the bottom again with actor Eric Roberts.

"That is the last '4' that we see in this competition," Britt told Eric, 68.

Eric just felt happy to still be in the competition. "I am so proud that I am still here for my wife," he said. "It's her favorite show and she bends over backwards for me. She’s my everything."

The pair did a Foxtrot to "Let’s Stay Together" by Al Green, which Eric ended by giving his wife Eliza a kiss.

"You have improved," Carrie Ann told Eric. "Your posture was better. Maybe with your balance, let's try to keep a little bend in your knees."

October 07, 2024 08:26 PM EDT

Months after competing in the Olympics, Ilona Maher went back to Paris when performing a Foxtrot to "Lady Marmalade" with Alan Bersten.

"We gotta show the classy side of Ilora," Alan, 30, said.

The rugby player, 28, hoped she could pull it off. "I hope he can see the graceful and elegance that I'm trying to bring out on the dance floor," she said in an on-camera interview.

After seeing the number, Derek called Ilona "beautiful and elegant" and Bruno referred to her number as a "proper Foxtrot."

"Say goodbye to rugby 'cause dancing is coming you way, girl," Carrie Ann said.

Phaedra Parks Gets the Show off to a Quick Start

October 07, 2024 08:16 PM EDT

Phaedra Parks and her partner Val Chmerkovskiy both worried about her pulling off a Quickstep on Soul Train Night.

"I've never seen Phaedra be quick," Val, 38, said.

The reality star, 50, knew the Quickstep would be a challenge for her. "My hart is racing," she told the cameras. "I'm extremely nervous. This Quickstep might be too quick for me."

The duo danced to Aretha Franklin's "Think," and received rave reviews from the judges.

"You have soul, you really do," Derek, 39, said to Phaedra.

Bruno, 68, called the Bravolebrity "retro fabulous," and Carrie Ann, 56, told her, "You are the queen."
