lenges. During the Arab Spring, Al Jazeera was at the heart of events along with the masses in public squares demanding freedom, dignity and justice. Since popular revolutions are a collective human act that aim to change the reality and end tyranny, Al Jazeera found itself more qualified to cover these stories than any other international media out- let. Geographic proximity, the bias towards humans and extensive field deployment were among the factors that helped Al Jazeera to step into this phase boldly and quickly with live and exclusive coverage from Tunisia, Egypt, Libya, Syria and Yemen. We can confidently say the whole world watched the Arab revolutions on Al Jazeera’s screens and various platforms. Having suffered severe setbacks, some of the Arab revolutions de- volved into chaos or armed conflicts and civil wars, leading the Arab world into a grey, fluid and complex area. Because Al Jazeera had been the closest to the revolutions, that change of course posed a serious challenge to it since it was the one that broadcast it to the whole world, causing many scholars to view the network as one of the revolutions’ engines not just a news broadcaster. Regardless of the nature of these challenges, Al Jazeera’s bias towards humans as established by its founding vision has progressed throughout the years and will continue to guide its editorial policy and field coverage. Certainly, the ongoing revolution in information and communication technology will continue to enhance the network’s access to crisis and disaster zones and to cover the humanitarian aspect more quickly and efficiently.
